当天夜里三点时分，大儿媳妇说：“爸爸流泪了！”众人都赶紧过来看，登时老人的嘴唇紧闭上了，—氧气袋里的气只从鼻孔进从鼻孔出了。

第二天就办起了丧事。老人静静地躺在堂屋中央，两腮陷了下去，和在世之时完全成了两个模样。三个妹妹和两个闺女哭得最悲恸。二妹家的两个儿媳妇并没见过这个舅舅几次面，也随着公婆和丈夫来参加丧礼。这两个小娘儿们走进了正厅，却是哭也哭不出来，不哭又不行,赶紧用手绢遮上脸，悄悄地商量着，一个对另一个说：“我们一起哭吧。预备……”立时齐声干嚎了起来。几声过后却是觉得无趣，只听得一片老少妇人女孩子们的哭声，这两人感到挺沉闷闷地，只好透过手指缝东瞅瞅西望望。见到婆婆哭得那么投入，不知两人是窃窃地说了什么打趣的话，竟“扑次”地笑了出来，好在没人注意到。

秦世枭遗给前妻的长女是联系不上了：老人见不到她已抱憾终天而去；她也不能回来再见父亲最末一面了。却还要等长子回来，让他再见到父亲一面。等了四天，老人的脸终于用一层布蒙上了，按中国的风俗，蒙上后是不能再揭开了。

第五天便去火化。秦世枭的第四个弟弟让化妆师在火化前跟他整整容，--十一年后，他的四弟回忆起往事时，还对他的长孙说：“你爹这人一辈子很注重个人形象，人又倜傥。在吃穿上从不委屈自己，--哪怕是在最艰苦的岁月里。所以，最后一次我也是要求将他打扮一番的。”弟弟儿子孙子们在辞容厅见了老人最后一面。老人静静地躺在玻璃棺材里，哀乐声中几个大男人痛哭流涕的，儿子扒着玻璃棺材，环着父亲的遗体转圈子。真希望那一刻时空都能够凝固，很快，火化场的几个工作人员过来硬拽住老人的儿子，将老人拉走了。等一会儿，工作人员通知家属去领骨骸。子孙们用布包了老人的遗骨，大孙子抱着，领着小孙子念叨着：“阿爹啊，回家了。阿爹啊，回家了。……”这是引领亲人魂归故里的，阿爹是当地称呼祖父的方言，一大家人回去了。

归家后就入殓了，棺头挂着一块黄布，上面是沈得睦手书的十一个遒劲的大字：秦氏长公讳世枭耀翔之柩，--耀翔二字比其余的字略小。耀翔是秦世枭的字号，朋友往来间都这么称呼他。夜间长孙和一个内侄子守着老人的灵柩。

次日就入葬了，送葬路上喇叭唢呐手们鼓得腮帮子肿胀般的大，摇头晃脑地嘶嘶哑哑地吹着。就葬在家中桑树林，儿时秦世枭和小伙伴们经常在这里玩耍。而如今二弟已死了三年了，葬在外地；三弟文革时被迫离家，去了北方，一直不知音信。自家林地的北面是秦世枭的母亲长眠之所，秦世枭就葬在母亲的坟墓南侧，正合古礼所谓的“怀中抱子”。儿子各捧回一捧土带回家中，这是管子孙发达兴旺的。亲朋诸友吃了酒当晚散去。

儿子们守了几夜的坟，就外出做事了。六七的时候，儿子们不在家，两个儿媳妇准确了些酒菜，只来了一些至亲本家，由长孙应酬了一下。

九年之后长孙秦逸想起祖父这些还恍如昨日事一般，并记哀悼文，只是两百个字左右，文曰：

维年二月初二十一日，长孙男逸哀怀先祖考大人，大人百年荏苒九春秋矣。哀吾祖兮，疾中周身尚思遗前祖母之长女，甚望见面，然未果，兹可痛哉。及大人之行将就木，一世英豪且落泪矣，盖人之将别生眷世之情也。又恨曾祖之失长男，不能送其天年也。大人荣辱一生，大方视之，方圆驰名敬畏。今孙男诚以为人生当如此矣。及孙男古稀教孙，犹可豪言：“吾祖真倜傥之士，汝辈勿失大风。”哀人世之陵谷，生人之劬劳，朝露易唏，呜呼哀哉。（后补）大人之辞年，孙男方幼，不深知逝者何为，虽亲见大人已长眠，恒梦大人之长健。人之逝者，永不见也，思之凄绝。

秦世枭这一离去，他的老父亲秦太公已经接连死了两个儿子，三子也不知音信，--实际上在秦世枭前面太公还有个头生子在婴孩时就夭折了。太公住在四儿子家，秦世枭去世了，办丧事那段时间家中人都过去帮忙了。太公奇怪家中没人，问最小的孙子怎么不见大人在家，小孙子只有六七岁，不知事，说：“大伯死了。”老人说：“小孙，去把农药拿来！”小孩子竟真去拿农药了。这是正好他大哥回来了，他大哥比他大了近十岁，问他想做什么，被拦下了。八月节过后，老人竟不肯吃饭了，绝食了好几天，仙游去了。

一流的文学家是不可复制的或是不可重复的。

一流的文学家的条件:

一,天赋的文学才华。--这一点是根本，没有这一条，其他的都不成立。

二，风骨魏晋。

三，洞穿世情。

四，叛逆时代。

五，经历沉浮。--这一条未必，但史上的大家多是这样的。

一，对的方向，轻重缓急：
1．应用软件；
2．机械学原理；
3．PETS；
4．文章是有钱有闲有雅致的人做的事。

5。有工夫还要练练字，师法颜真卿。
二，理性地面对现实社会。
这个时代是一个整体社会道德沦丧的时代，同时也空前的太平盛世。
三，不论遇到怎样困苦，决不去忧戚。

每天都是生命的第一天，每天也都是生命的最后一天。
四，抱有希望，直到死。

五，一切皆有可能。

六，相信天命。

011.中国简史

A Brief Chronicle of Ancient China
By Gary Chi (Chi Zheng qing [池正卿]) 说明：本是想写给洋鬼子绍介中国的情况，想到哪写到哪地写了这些，写完之后才跟它胡乱加了个名子叫《中国简史》，--可能称不上，也不管这些了。又没有查阅资料，只是凭个记忆写的；所以，具体的历史年代很少写出来，还有些专有名词的叫法也是我个人的译法（如《文心雕龙》等）。也曾打算查阅资料认真修改下或者重写一篇，又一直没耐心这么做。
Nearly 5000 years ago, a great man named Yellow Emperor[黄帝 Huang Di] who was later regarded as the ancestor of the Chinese people by the Chinese people united several his neighboring tribes in the land of later China and became their leader. After his death, people elected a new man as a new leader and the electoral system was being kept from generation to generation.

In 21st century BC, one of the leaders named Yu[禹] gave his throne to one of his sons after his death who established China’s first dynasty, the Xia[夏] Dynasty. The governmental system of China in that time was decentralization. The central government completely governed a state (or principality) and partly governed the other states.

After Xia descended, Shang[商] came, then Zhou[周]. The people of the later dynasties described these three dynasties as the golden days of the whole Chinese history.

Gradually, the central government lost its controlling on the other states. The Zhou Dynasty experienced two paragraphs: the Western Zhou[西周 Xi zhou] and the Eastern Zhou[东周 Dong zhou] which also included two parts: the Spring and Autumn[春秋Chun qiu] Period and the Warring[战国 Zhan guo] Period. In the Warring Period the central government lost its power on controlling the other states and finally itself was overthrown by the State of Qin[秦].

The period of both the Spring and Autumn and the Warring was a free period when numerous philosophers, thinkers, educationists, politicians, strategists, chivalry and even assassins came. The following elite are still remembered by the Chinese people: Confucius, Mengcius, Master Senior [老子Lao zi] (the founder of Taoism), Master Zhuang[庄子Zhuang zi] (a Taoist), Master Sun[孙子Sun zi] (a general of the State Wu[吴] and the author of “the Art of War”[孙子兵法Sun zi bing fa]), Guan Zhong[管仲] (an attacker against and premier of the Prince Huan of the State Qi[齐桓公Qi huan gong]), Master Yan[晏子Yan zi] (a dwarf and premier of the State Qi), Su Qin[苏秦] (the common premier of the Anti-Qin[秦] Alliance of the State Qi[齐], Chu[楚], Han[韩], Zhao[赵], Wei[魏], and Yan[燕]), Zhang Yi[张仪] (a strategist who finally defeated the Anti-Qin Alliance), Shang Yang[商秧], Jing He[荆轲] (a failed assassin of a Prince of State Qin, namely the later Emperor First[始皇帝Shi huang di]), Qu Yuan[屈原] (a native of the State Chu and one of the greatest Chinese poets),etc.

The Qin had been powerful since the Coup d’etat of Shang Yang[商秧], a change of constitutional framework, supported by the Prince Filial [孝公Xiao gong] and led by Shang Yang, a native of the State of Wei[卫] and one of the senior ministers of Qin. After the Prince Filial died, Shang Yang was killed in the way of being split up by five horses that ran away differently in five directions by some of his oppositon. That Coup d’etat was the beginning of China’s feudalist society defined by modern Chinese historians.

Up to 221 BC, the State of Qin defeated all of the other survival states and unified China. The prince of Qin appointed himself the first Huang di[皇帝] (Emperor) and he founded a centralized government of which the political system lasted in China for more than 2000 years.

The greatest writer in Empire Qin was Li Si[李斯], a native of the State Chu[楚] and the prime minister of Qin, whose most famous article was “Expelling the Guest-politicians, Stop”[谏逐客书Jian zhu ke shu], a proposal letter to Emperor First.
After Qin, the main dynasties included the followings:

Han [汉]:Western Han and Eastern Han Han was famous for its fu[赋] (a form of composition) and its most striking writer was Si ma Xiang ru[司马相如]. Meantime, one of the top-class historians Si ma Qian[司马迁] was also born in that time, whose great historic works was “The Record of Historian”[史记 Shi ji] (which is my most favorite historic works).

The Three Kingdoms Period[三国San guo]： This period when the Kingdoms of Wei[魏], Shu[蜀] and Wu[吴] co-existed, was full of warring and lots of legendary militants , strategists and politicians emerged. Lots of stories in this period were exaggerated and recorded in “the Three Kingdoms”[三国演义San guo yian yi], one of the great classical four Chinese fiction of Ming[明] and Qing[清] dynasties. There were also many great writers in this period , most of whom were politicians originally, such as Cao Cao[曹操] (the pre-founder of Wei) ,Cao Pi[曹丕] (the Emperor Wen of the Wei[魏文帝Wei wen di]), Cao Zhi[曹植] (the Prince Si of the State Chen[陈思王 Chen si wang] of the Wei). Pi and Zhi were Cao’s sons) and Zhu ge Liang[诸葛亮] (a Prime Minister of the Shu), etc.

Jin [晋]:Western Jin and Eastern Jin:In the Jin, there were two of the most famous men: Wang Xi zhi[王羲之] (an excellent calligrapher) and Tao Yuan ming[陶渊明] (an excellent poet).

North and South Dynasties (南北朝Nan bei chao): A literature critic (or reviewer) Liu Xie[刘勰] from the Liang[梁] Dynasty in the South Dynasties, who wrote a book “Dragon Sculpture from the Heart of Literature”[文心雕龙Wen xin diao long] was a very important person in the history of criticism on Chinese literature.

Shui [隋]:

Tang [唐]: Famous for its poetry and the most excellent poets were Li Bai[李白] and Du Fu[杜甫]. The achievement of the art of calligraphy also reached its climax and the most prominent calligraphers in the whole Chinese history including Yan Zhen qing[颜真卿] (who is my most favorite calligrapher), Liu Gong quan[柳公权] and Ou yang Xun[欧阳询] were born in that time.

Period of the Five Dynasties and Ten States[五代十国Wu dai shi guo]:

Song[宋]: Famous for its ci[词] ( a form of poetry) and the most outstanding writers were Su Shi[苏轼], Xin Qi ji[辛弃疾] and Li Qing zhao[李清照] (female).

Yuan[元]: Famous for its drama[杂剧Zhan ju], and the most important writer was Guan Han qing[关汉卿].

Ming[明]:

Qing[清]: Both of Ming and Qing were famous for their novel (or fiction), and the great classical four Chinese fiction were born in these time, which were “the Red Mansion Dream”[红楼梦 Hong lou meng], “the Three Kingdoms”[三国演义San guo yan yi], “the Outlaws”[水浒Shui hu] and “the Journey to West”[西游记Xi you ji]. Beside the fours, there were lots of other terrific works, such as “the Gold, Vase, and Plum”[金瓶梅Jin ping mei], “the Scholars”[儒林外史Ru lin wai shi] (which is my most favorite fiction), and “the Strange Tale from Make-do Studio”[聊斋志异Liao zhai zhi yi], etc.

Yung Wing and China’s Modernization

In the period of the late Qing, China, the onetime superpower for thousands of years descended and lots of patriots came to dedicate their whole life to saving the fall of China. Among these patriots, a man named Yung Wing[容闳Rong Hong] was a model, who contributed all of his life to China’s modern education and enlightenment. In April 1847, Yung embarked to the United States for receiving Western education, then attained his bachelor degree in Yale University in 1854 that made him the first Chinese graduate from one of the top American colleges. After Yung returned China, through his lots of struggles, the Empire Qing accepted his proposal in 1872 and sent out 120 children during 4 years to the US for receiving American education and he was just as one of this educational commissioner to the US. In December of 1875, he was promoted as one of the two Chinese associate ministers to the US by the Empire Qing’s government and he became one of the first Chinese ambassadorial legates abroad in Chinese history. In the same year, he married an American girl Mary Louise Kellogg who then gave birth to two sons for Yung. Unfortunately, in the year of 1878, the Empire Qing sent an imperial mandate to recall the students and the educational scheme ended. Though, most of these students later became elite in many fields who even had made a stronger influence on the China’s modernization. In his late years, he fled to the US thanks to the pursuit of the Qing government and lived in Hartford, Connecticut where he completed his autobiography “My Life in China and America”. He died at the ripe age of 84 years old, on April 12th of 1912, on which day he received a letter to recall him to China by Sunyatsen the new president of the Republic of China.

In 1911, the capitalist Revolution exploded and the Ching[清Qing] Dynasty clasped when the last emperor Puyi[溥仪] was just a boy of only 5 year old. This revolution was led by Sunyatsen (Maybe this spelling is translated from the pronunciation of Sun Yi xian[孙逸仙], and in China people commonly call him Sun Zhong shan[孙中山]), one of the founders and the first president of the Republic of China, which was established in January 1st of 1912 and of which the capital located in Nan king[南京 Nan jing]. On March 12th of 1925, Sun passed away in Peking[北京Bei jing] and 4 years later he was buried in Nan king, and the inscription of his grave wrote: “Master Sun, the past President of the Kuomintang Party of China takes his rest here eternally”[中国国民党葬总理孙先生长眠于此Zhou guo guo min dang zhang zong li sun xian sheng chang mian yu ci].
In 1949, the government of the Kuomintang Party [国民党Guo min dang] (the Nationalist Party of China) was defeated by the Communist Party led by Maotsetong[毛泽东Mao Ze dong], namely Chairman Mao[毛主席Mao zhu xi], one of the founders of both the Communist Party and the People’s Republic of China. Then Chiangkaishek[蒋介石Jiang Jie shi], head of the Kuomintang fled to Taiwan with his rest staff and the Communist Party began to control the Land of China. …

The quantity of antique documents of China is larger than that of anyone of the other countries all around the whole world. Among those historical documents, there are some of the most famous books, such as

“The Spring and Autumn”[春秋 Chun qiu], versified and completed by Confucius, from the State Lu[鲁]

“The Chronicle of Spring and Autumn by Zuo”[春秋左氏传Chun qiu zuo shi zhuan or 左传Zuo zhuan]，versified and completed by Zuo qiu Ming[左丘明]，a blind historian-official of the State Lu

“The Record of Historian”[史记 Shi ji] , by Si ma Qian[司马迁], one of the most prominent Chinese historians of the Wertern Han[西汉 Xi han] Dynasty

“The Book of Han”[汉书 Han shu], by Ban Gu[班固], a historian of Eastern Han[东汉Dong han] Dynasty

“The Book of the Three Kingdoms”[三国志Sang guo zhi], by Chen Shou[陈寿], a historian of Western Jin[西晋Xi jin] Dynasty

[斯世]009。曹主任记事

曹主任，马桶盖头，讲课声音抑扬顿挫的，有时讲到得意处，将头猛地扭几下，将头发向后一甩，--简直标致极了。曹主任还写一笔好字，学校的用到写大字时，都是曹主任写的。
那时读到刘鄂《老残游记﹒明湖居听书》，刘鄂的文笔实在是太妙，将王小玉的歌声之美描写得惟妙惟肖，甚至多了溢美之味。以后，有人说某事言不可道之，我是不相信的，那只是自己不能表达出来罢了。曹主任为了大家能领悟其中味道一二，播放了李娜的《青藏高原》，--在那时的那样的死沉沉的教学环境里算是“出格”之举了。

讲到《史记﹒项羽本纪》的鸿门宴一节，最后有句文字是“立诛杀曹无伤”，曹主任读到里，大家哄堂大笑；--大家大约是“讥笑”：“嘿嘿，杀的可是你曹家的人哟。”

有次他说某某残害忠良，有的同学窃笑，曹主任发现了，他毫不在意，还故意地又重复一遍：某某残害忠良。要知道：曹主任，大名曹忠良。

还有两件事,也是在那样的死爬爬的氛围中能令我记起的有点活气的事情了：

一次，我去骂陈，曹主任把我叫到他家，我到他家时，他正在系裤带，也不回避。

一次是高考期间，同学住在县城的一家旅馆，傍晚曹主任和同学们（当然全是男生了）站在天台上看着车来车往的，解开裤子拉链，掏出家伙，就朝楼下尿去。

毕业后，我一直不曾再过曹主任。

其实，做出点事情，--虽然在这个“四心”全无的时代，德行、才具、同志还必需的，--只不过一定要在对的方向，遇到对的人--尤其这一点是可遇不可求的。

正如古谚所道“男怕选错行，女怕嫁错郎”之恨。

□错行，空有才华，用在瞎地上，徒然被糟蹋浪费；不必远征前人，就是在今天这种遭遇的人还少么！！！？？？？

□没有同志者，寂寥无助亦难成事。
