HAMLET

HAMLET
Three weeks ago I've got a hometask (on the courses in university) to learn by heart a part of 'Hamlet' by W. Shakespeare. And yesterday I finally did it! Now I know it perfectly.
There is a part of it.

HAMLET
By William Shakespeare

To be, or not to be; that is the question:
Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And, by opposing, end them. To die, to sleep -
No more, and by a sleep to say we end
The heartache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to – ‘tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep.
To sleep, perchance to dream. Ay, there’s the rub,
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil
Must give us pause. There’s the respect
That makes calamity of so long life,
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
Th’oppressor’s wrong, the proud man’s contumely,
The pangs of disprized love, the law’s delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of th’unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? Who would these fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovered country from whose bourn
No traveler returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all.

always depend only on yourself
Now I'm sitting at home instead to be at the rock-concert!
I haven't got a ticket to it.

A few days before the concert I asked my friend, who would take part at it (he plays in the band The Final Headshot), to get me a ticket and hand it through my friend with whom I study at the same class. But they didn't do it. They hadn't tickets, then time and finally they forgot about me. Was it so difficult to get one ticket for me?

The consequence of this story is that I must always depend only on myself.

Friendship or not?

Friendship or not?
Do you have the best friend? Before the last time I thought I had. But now I understand that I was mistaken. I’m disappointed not only in my best friend, but in my close friends from school too, and maybe in friendship at all.

When I’m funny and make laugh others – I’m their friend. When I help them on tests or other works – I’m also their friend. When somebody has problem or just need to be listened – I’m her best friend. But when I come to school with a sad mood or just haven’t will to laugh – they haven’t will to stay with me or only pretend that they sympathize with me. What’s the consequence then? I’m some clown, crib or handkerchief for tears for them, am not I?

You could say that they are simply not friends for me. But earlier they were another. Our relations were so good. It has changed this year – the last year at school. What was the reason? I don’t understand. Maybe we’ve become boring for each other. I think it can’t happen with REAL friendship. So, where is it?

Now I’m staying at home and haven’t will to go to the school, where my ‘friends’ with their hypocrisy wait for me.
But I have to…

‘Love at first sight’ idioms
This theme of idioms I think will be very useful in life:)

There is a romantic story about the nineteenth century revolutionary, Garibaldi. He was on his ship entering a port when he saw a beautiful woman standing on the shore. ‘That is the woman I am going to marry’, he said. It was love at first sight. The woman, when she met him, was swept off her feet by his good looks and personality. They wee married within days and only had eyes for each other for the rest of their lives.

•	love at first sight – falling in love immediately
•	sweep someone off their feet – make them fall in love quickly
•	only have eyes for - only be interested in

snowy day
Snow, snow-storms, snowmen, winter cold… I like these things so much! Seeing on fallen snow-flakes is very fascinating way of spending time for me. And winter games, snowballs, skating, skiing, sledging, hockey and many self-made games, are so funny and cheerful amusements. And when I have a romantic mood (It happens not often:)), the kisses with boyfriend under the snowfall will stay in my mind long time…

Today we had the second snowfall this year. (The first one was near 8th of November) Hm… ‘snowfall’ is very strong word, maybe it’s better to say, that there some snow-flakes fell down :)) and melted instantly. Anyway it was cool snowy day:)

Two days ago I called to my friend from the USA, and she told me about the big reductions on prices of different things in shops, super markets. And the next big shopping day she will have on 22nd December. :\\\ Why don’t they exist in Ukraine? Eeeeee… I would make so many purchases if they are… Anyway, money is never enough for me when I’m in some shop:)

But although she was pleased to escape from the rat race, she felt like a fish out of the water in the country. Now she’s back in the city, wiser for her experience.

•	life in the fast lane – fast, high-pressure lifestyle

•	rat race – competitive working life

•	fish out of the water - uncomfortable in a strange situation

God in my life
I’ve just come from the church. I’m Christian. I feel such a great lightness in my soul when I’m in the church. There we sing, pray and listen to the sermons.

Gospel songs aren’t some boring, religious prayers. For instance, I advice you to listen to Hillsong United songs. My favourite ones are ‘Take It All’ and ‘Forever’.

national sorrow

national sorrow
Today is 24th November. My country has a national sorrow. Today’s 75th anniversary of famine (holodomor) caused by Russian Soviet Government.

The Ukrainian famine (1932-1933), or Holodomor, was one of the largest national catastrophes of the Ukrainian nation in history with direct loss of human life in the range of millions (estimates vary). While the famine in Ukraine was a part of a wider famine that also affected some other regions of the USSR such as Kazakhstan and Volga German Republic, the name Holodomor is specifically applied to the events that took place in territories populated by ethnic Ukrainians.

Most modern historians agree that the famine was caused by the policies of the government of the Russian Soviet Union under Stalin, rather than by natural causes, and the Holodomor is sometimes referred to as genocide, implying that the famine was engineered by the Soviet leadership, specifically targeting the Ukrainian people to destroy the Ukrainian nation as a political factor and social entity.

The parliament of Ukraine and the governments of 14 other countries recognized the famine as genocide. Ukraine is very thankful to Poland, Georgia, Australia, Portugal, Canada, Hungary and some other.

To honor those who perished in the Holodomor, monuments have been dedicated and public events held annually in Ukraine and worldwide.

Viktor Yushchenko directed that a minute of silence should be observed at 4 o'clock in the afternoon today. The document specified that flags in Ukraine should fly at half-mast as a sign of mourning. In addition, the decree directed that entertainment events are to be restricted and television and radio programming adjusted accordingly. And at the window of each Ukrainian will be a candle…

Flag: to be or not to be!

You know, today I’ve done one cool thing (as for my mind).

I know that in USA the national flag is something very important, special for people. I’ve seen it everywhere: on the houses, buildings, at the street, in the people hand and even on pants. In Ukraine you can see national flag only on the state buildings and rarely in other places.
Why? May the flag be the expression of patriotism, love to the Motherland? I think not at all but it may be. So… Ukrainians aren’t patriots of their country!? Maybe after the long dependence of Russia government and belonging to big community of Soviets Republic it lost its national identity.? I don’t think so. I believe that despite repressions, suffering, political turmoil and ecological disasters, Ukraine’s spirit and national identity have never died. I know Ukraine’s patriotism will revive with new wave. I think must be changed the generation of people before. Because almost all old people is still belong to USSR and Russia. Unfortunately…

So let’s return to thing that I’ve done. I’ve hung up the flag of my country on my house. It’s so beautiful blue-yellow width. You can see the picture in my profile photos.

What can you say about your national flag and patriotism?

                                                                    posya
