Once I believed...

And so it stays in me...

that feeling that I am far from who everyone thought I would be.

The sensation that I'm standing still,

as the world rushes by against my will.

Once I believed.. could I ever again?

In people, in kindness.. the way I did back then.

The doubt rips through me a heavy, sick sadness.

My eyes seem to glitter, with vain thoughts of madness.

I could walk through the crowds.. ah, so easily.

In my tainted mask of feigned vanity.

Or I could falter, stumbling as I get out of bed

to lay me back down... with a troubled, weary head.

To face the people.. who are so disappointed?

Looking for martyrs, which thier own hands annointed.

False hopes, false love, in a false way of living.

There is no anger in this heart of mine.

Only sympathy, for those who have no spine.

Hiding my blues behind my eyes...

I face myself in the mirror and hardly recognize-

the person looking back at me.

Believe me, I know I'm lost

at least THIS much I can see ...
