Hei, how are you?
My name is Ardananeswari, but you can call me just ekin. I have a project report for my study and it’s about cross cultural understanding. I hope u can help me. I’m very thankful if you help me.
I came from Indonesia, have you heard Indonesia? How about Bali? Most of tourist visit Bali, but they don’t know Indonesia. Bali is a part of Indonesia. But, I live in Surabaya. It’s a big city. It’s a capital city of East Java. Indonesia is a country which has many cultures. We have a moto named “ Bhineka Tunggal Ika “, it means although we are different, we are one.
Living in Indonesia, especially in Java, has many myths that we still beliefs&rules, though it’s not as much as past, but sometimes it’s still valid in here. For example: Girl shouldn’t go home too late at night, Girl shouldn’t go out while adzan maghrib (it’s a pray time for Moslem, it’s around 6pm-6.30pm), we have to respect to older people, etc. We also have many ceremonies for some event. For example : we have NGABEN in Bali, it’s a funeral ceremony, we have to burn the dead-body, and the dust is brought in the sea, in order to the body can become one with nature.
About the food, Indonesia has many kind of food depends on the city. In my place, East Java, also has many kind of food. Most of it has spicy taste. I love spicy food. Food that you can find in here are “Rujak”, it’s consist of many kind of fruits with nut sauce; “Pecel”, it’s consist of rice, vegetables with nut sauce, too; “Bakso” or meat ball;etc. Indonesian always eat rice in every single day.
Talking about our costums, we have Batik. Although we don’t wear it everyday. Have you heard about batik? It’s a kind of material with a pattern. Batik has many pattern, depends on the city also. It’s nice. It can use in formal style, or daily style. Besides Batik, Indonesia has many typical costums to indentify the city. But, usually it’s wore when we have special event, such a marriage.
So, how about your country and your culture? What is life like in your country? What kind of food do you eat? What kind of houses do you live in? what are your costums? Would you like to tell it to me? I’m very happy to learn about your country&its culture.
Regards,
Ekin.
