“Tierschutz Euskirchen” says that the number of those birds that live in fields has been declining in Germany for the past 30 years now. Reason is that firstly peasants use unnecessarily strong pesticides these days that kill animals much bigger than mice, rats or insects and secondly that modern fields are very monoculture and neatly arranged. Decades ago birds and other animals had lots of grass, bushes and other plants to hide and lay their eggs. Nowdays most fields contain only one specimen of plant which peasants plant in a way which may be optimal and lucrative for their necessities, but very unpractical for animals that need to hide themselves, their eggs and their chicks well.

Re-upload: If you visit the following website “http://www.arkive.org/bengal-florican/houbaropsis-bengalensis/info.html”, you’ll not only get informed about this bird, but also about an organisation that helps to protect critically endangered animals. On this website they even tell you how YOU can get involved.

Another critically endangered bird, called “araripe manakin” wasn’t discovered until 13 years ago and – as I said before – is already critically endangered.

Actually it doesn’t really have anything to do with birds in general, but with the protection of nature, but I think there’s nothing wrong about mentioning this in here: Aparajita Datta is a woman who has been trying to protect the precious Indian nationalparc Namdapha for ten years. There it happens very often that poor people attack animals-sometimes because they fear for their fields, sometimes because they need something to sell on the black market. Datta understands their problems and thus she tries to ameliorate their living conditions by helping them to make their agriculture become more efficient, by somehow making it possible for them to get better education and to avoid the logging of the forest she also tries to get better ovens for them.

Some want to do something against the capturing of animals like these birds by going into zoos, taking photos of the animals there and putting them on the Internet to write comments about how unhappy these animals seemed to be. Believe me! This works quite the wrong way! Zoos profit from visitors like these, because..they pay money TO THEM for taking these photographs. In case you really want to help wild animals: Do the opposite! Don’t go there! If you want to upload photos of captive animals, there already are enough online. Copy them-if you want to-and upload them wherever you like to.
