When I took the bus yesterday the bus driver had his radio on. I don’t know which channel this was, but a news reporter reported about the problems Cameroon faces at the moment: high numbers of refugees from neighboring countries that are even less save than Cameroon, armed conflics that drive away many people who then become refugees in their own country, a spread of cholera, 4.4 millions of people so poor they depend on charity and of course – like the rest of the world – Corona.

‘Domradio’ says that in Cameroon already more than 1.700 people are infected with Corona, making it one of the African countries most affected by COVID 19. As sa result the government of Cameroon now made travelling illegal – even for workers from aid-organisations. Water, food and even sanitary stuff can’t be spread anymore among the poor. Hundreds of people see this as a reason to flee to neighboring countries as refugees. At the same time attacks on and murder of civilians have increased.

It won’t let me paste links. Look for the article “how we disarmed the Liberian fighters”. It is an interview with the Kenyan General who led the effort in Liberia.

Sometimes I try to respond and it won’t let me.
Liberia was struggling. African states disarmed the criminals.
Standing up to evil is never easy, but if it isn’t done they will always win.
The Good still outnumber the Evil. Standing aside because it’s hard instead of fighting evil as it grew allowed many evil things to happen in the 20th century.
Your nation suffered from such a policy.
Those people are suffering, we have a duty to “Good”, regardless of difficulty.
Liberia struggled too. The side of “Good” intervened.
No, disarming the honest American would be FAR more dangerous than disarming criminals. Many of our criminals are already armed, criminals are no match for people who believe they are fighting for right.

Not trying to sound rude, Joe, but your comment makes this sound so easy. Sure they cause suffering and the world would be better off with them being disarmed, but disarming every member of a huge criminal organization like Boko Haram would be definitely harder than taking away the guns from let’s say regular citizens or official and legal organizations. However I suppose you already knew that, didn’t you?

News: The Catholic Worker Movement Uganda says that since Cameroon banned the import of poultry from the EU the local production of poultry has increased by ten times the number before this ban. Plus there now is much more profit for poultry farmers than before. Thus the Catholic Worker Movement Uganda hopes that other countries will follow this example.
