Is it essential for you to have the same political view or belong to the same political party when you choose your partner?

Yeah, I think differences of opinion on political issues do cause tension even among close friends. It's not just about different political parties, but also nationalistic issues evoke strong emotions.

I have known couples where one is a socialist, while the other is an ardent conservative, but they seem to get on well together.

yes I think is will much more easy to belong to the same political party because when you will discuss many important issues you will share the same point of you and you wouldn't argue about anything .Life will be easier although some times difference is interesting.

As for me, I couldn't imagine myself with someone who didn't share the same basic views, like, political ones, with me. It's different with frineds..in friendship different opnions just spice up the realtionship.
