English Idioms & the Japanese

Scholar-san

United Kingdom

I once taught English in Japan, but now study Applied Linguistics in England. For my thesis I need Japanese people, age 16 and older, to try my small English idioms survey. I may offer an Amazon Gift Voucher / アマゾンギフト券 from a prize-draw, if folks allow me to interview them:

Questionnaire: http://www.smart-survey.co.uk/v.asp?i=53221ilgxq ; instructions are in Japanese and English; eight dialogues – choose idioms to complete them; Japanese equivalents given afterwards.

Why this survey? Whilst in Japan I felt that my students needed to learn more idioms and fixed-phrases for more natural conversation. However, idioms are very cultural, so I want to understand how Japanese people react to certain types.

Hope you can help! Be glad to chat here too.
