Marriage is a contract between a man and a woman. They agree to live together as husband and wife. Like other contracts, a marriage contract has rights and duties for each partner.l

what about Civil marriage

or living together ( man and women live together and have children without any contract)

 is it positive or negative ? do you agree with or not ??

Could you make the term "civil marriage" more exact? There is a confusion about this term in my country. I has 2 meanings:

1) colloquial, but most widly spread – 2 people (a man and a woman) are living together without being married;

2) correct meaning, which is used only by lawyers – a marriage that is registered by state authorities and recognized by law (no matter whether it is consecrated by church or not).

Are you also speaking about pre-marital contracts here?

Alice, I think he's talking about colloquial because the legal meaning of Civil marriage is just like what you've been mentioned.

I will analyze from the legal side. as long as they cover the legal matters for the children's surname or children's financial support then it's not a big deal.

personally, I dont really mind if people do so. but I have a different standard for myself. for me: you better marry me or you will never get to popped my cherry because the store is closed until the wedding bell rings..y'know what I mean?

2) correct meaning, which is used only by lawyers – a marriage that is registered by state authorities and recognized by law (which is not consecrated by church).

Though it is usually consecrated by the church if the man and woman meet the criteria of the church.

In the U.S., definition 1) is referred to as "living together"; marriage is not the issue because there is no contract.

A blast from the past:

In international law, discrimination of 'civil marriages' is unrightful. In polish law there's a hole, 'coz they start being interested in this kind of relationship, when it breaks down. Then there's a problem of division oftheir fortune. But anyway, 64% of polish people accept 'civil marriages'.

For me, having children without normally getting marriage is stupid. What about the surname? What will school friends say? How to let them know, when they grow up?

Alica i meant this  your  NO:1 1) colloquial, but most widly spread – 2 people (a man and a woman) are living together without being married;

The noun civil marriage has one meaning: Meaning #

1: a marriage performed by a government official rather than by a clergyman Marriage – certain aspects of capacity

2. Marriage, for civil purposes, is the lawful union of two persons to the exclusion of all others. Religious officials 3. It is recognized that officials of religious groups are free to refuse to perform marriages that are not in accordance with their religious beliefs.

Friends,

I have not raed the word 'love or  mutual understanding' in the whole said topic of marriage upto now… I feel nobody feels' love or understanding'  to be the essence of of a relation between man & woman…

& any contract that happens  between man & woman… I.e. is likely to have the meaning 'used' for each other.. I feel it to be legalised or socaily accepted prostitution…because relation has lost faith between two persons… when a relation  needs  protection of law or society or religion.. it can't be a spiritual relation….

just the difference between a contract of marriage & prostituion is that pros is for short pereiod & marriage is for long pereiod.. the quantitative difference not qualitataive.. both lack the essence … the love..

What religion has to do with the marriage.. If two persons love together.. what is the role of religion has…? & there should be no role of law too.. faith should be the only criteria of marriage.. actually marriage is useless word.. & it should be used for a dead relation.. I may be wrong & I am wrong from a lot people's views.. but I know it's depth..

Marta i think you got what i did mean by CIvil marriage..Can you give us the meaning of Civil marriage in your country..

I found this deffinition..

Definition: A civil marriage is one where the marriage ceremony has a government or civil official perform the ceremony.

A civil marriage is a wedding that takes place without any religious affiliation and meets the legal requirements of the locale.

Some countries require that a couple have their first marriage ceremony be a civil ceremony in a public location and that the ceremony is open to the public. The couples can then be married in a church and have a religious ceremony performed by a member of the clergy.
