Oklahoma Rep. Sally Kern on YouTube Clip: Homosexuality Bigger Threat Than Terrorism

Sunday, March 16, 2008

OKLAHOMA CITY  —  A YouTube audio clip of a state lawmaker's screed against homosexuality, which she called a bigger threat than terrorism, has outraged gay activists and brought death threats rolling in.

"The homosexual agenda is destroying this nation, OK, it's just a fact," Rep. Sally Kern said recently to a gathering of fellow Republicans outside the Capitol.

"Studies show no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted, you know, more than a few decades. So it's the death knell in this country.

"I honestly think it's the biggest threat that our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam, which I think is a big threat," she said.

It's because she's a Christian and she believes the 'bible' is a source of truth:

Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."

Lev. 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them"

1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."

Rom. 1:26-28, "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper."

Edit to explain my stance (as asked):

As any rational and educated person knows, however, the 'bible' was written by humans over hundreds and even thousands of years (old testament), and considering its contradictions ( http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/donald_morgan/flaws.html ) and the point of it being mythology, it is clearly not a source of moral (or any other) truth.

Homosexuals are people like any other, who merely have a different sexual orientation.  If anything, they improve society by being decent, compassionate humans being and openings the minds of bigoted, hateful religious dogmatists.

sunnygirl,

this US politician was saying that she thinks homosexuality is a threat to society. And that it is a bigger danger than terrorism.

I didn't really say what I thought, I only posted part of the news report.

But for the record, I think she's wrong and I hope the people she represents will vote her out of a job.

"Who do you agree with Blake?"

I edited my post to explain my stance.  I'm an Atheist, I find no truth in the book called 'the bible'- only contradictory mythologies and various overlapping and largely arbitrary commandments of hate, war, racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.

Homosexuals are in no way a threat to society- the terrorist Christians who murder them, however, are.  That goes for terrorist Muslims, too, who are just as bad as the Christians in their Homophobia (although there are few to no terrorist Muslims in the states).

it's not because she's a christian, Blake.

I am a christian but I support the homosexual rights to get married. it's just her personal opinion that came from smoking cracks.

ps: Sally Kern's son is a gay.  that make me hate her more.I bet she didn't even think that it's going to hurt her son's feeling.

and as homosexual is athiest and live in the country of  freedom . do not prevent them to do what ever they desire since there is no rape .leave him get marriage . no proplem

but any normal person do not feel comfortable when he deal with such people . it is just opposite the human standard and morality which is universal I think . and if the normal person believe in  religion like islam and christianity this feeling strengthen to  become disgusting . just because this religion always enhance the actions which are moral , normal and pretty .and fight abnurmality and immorality .

"it's not because she's a christian, Blake."

Oh but it is.  I have a friend who is gay, and whose Christian step mother was very cruel to him because of it- she experienced a tragic life event, and became an atheist, and from that point on she was very kind to him.

Christians use the bible to support sexism (which it strongly supports, women are property in Abrahamic religions), racism (which it also strongly supports), bigotry against other religions (which it essentially condemns people for not supporting), and hate against pretty much every minority or non-conforming group there is.

"I am a christian but I support the homosexual rights to get married."

In accordance with the bible, you should not do that though… have you read it?  If not, I strongly suggest you do so.  You are adhering to a faith that uses it as a cornerstone.  If you do not believe in the bible, that's another issue- but most Christians consider it the absolute literal word of their god.

"it's just her personal opinion that came from smoking cracks."

It isn't though, it's a dogmatic belief shared by the majority of the most prominent groups of Christians in the United states.

That's slowly changing as people realize how morally revolting and outdated the bible is- preachers no longer read most of these verses in church for fear of losing converts- but it's still something that defines Christianity as a whole.

"ps: Sally Kern's son is a gay.  that make me hate her more.I bet she didn't even think that it's going to hurt her son's feeling."

Please read Luke 14:26 out of your bible.  Jesus himself clearly condones this act of acting against her son, in favor of her god:

Jesus:  "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple."

That is assuming one accepts any of the quotes of 'Jesus' out of the bible as having any veracity (which they don't of course- most of the bible is based on the writings of a nutter named Paul (or Saul) from Tarsus who never even met 'Jesus' in life, and basically just made things up based on visions he had).

Monatta, I have to asked you..where you get the idea that all homosexual is atheist??

some of them are christian, some of them are muslims too…..

and if the normal person believe in  religion like islam and christianity this feeling strengthen to  become disgusting . just because this religion always enhance the actions which are moral , normal and pretty .and fight abnurmality and immorality .

girl, you make me laugh. sorry but seriously it's like having the same sex topic again.

what do you mean with NORMAL person????? define the words normal, please.

I am christian and NO I dont feel that this is disgusting and NO I dont think religion enhance the moral, normal pretty whatsoever. it's the person.

how come you describe homosexuality as immoral? it's like putting them on the same stage with rapist.

okay forget it, i wont spend my time discuss this thing with you.

By the way, I am Christian, but I support Homosexual rights to get married. I am all for the affirmative actions of homosexual rights.

I just dont get it when people called homosexual as immoral or not normal. they are human too and they are way better than any stupid terrorist in the world.

what's different from them is the sexual orientation and it's not even the society rights to interfere since sexual rights is a human rights.

you can call me abnormal, Monatta. because I am very comfortable when I deal with these people. I was their legal counselor.

Blake:I dont think Christianity ever approved persecution. I read Bible. every single day. I believe in people are equal infront of God. Being a Christian doesn't mean you follow the bible blindly and hurt people around you. Being a Christian means you have faith in God, doing good deeds.  being a real Christian is not about religion. it's about Faith in God and respecting others.

I know many Christian friends that agreed with me and I am sure that many of them feel the same way like I do.

You can't judge that what she did is a part of being Christian. Many, I said, MANY Christians are mad at her words. It's in her character. Homophobia is an attitude. it's something that you learned. it's like when racist white taught their children to be afraid of black people.

I am a Christian and I am not like her. so you cant really said that it's because her being a Christian.

Blake, you spend all of your time memorizing other peoples' beliefs, so that you can refute them rather than try to understand your purpose in this universe
in short, you need to get laid, but can't, and argue with people instead
