I am puzzled for my career. What can I do in the future? To be graduated from a university , however, I find what I have learned is not what I need for my career. My oral English is so poor that I just feel afraid . Sometimes , I really want to speak loudly to ask for help, but I can't.

A Korean friend of mine learned English through the following method: he picked a couple of tapes of people speaking English, like practice tapes for the TOEIC or TOEFL test, and then he listened to them. Again. And again. And again. Every day he listened to them, even if he didn't pay attention, he always had them on, so he could hear them, even though he didn't understand them completely. He listened to the same tapes every day, for hours and hours of the day. Then, after a few months, he tried doing dictation from the tapes. He did the dictation over and over again until he had practically memorized the spelling and grammar patterns and the vocabulary. Then he got some new tapes.

First , thank you for your advice. Second , what you say makes me think over the other thing. Maybe I should spend more time in listening and reading Enlish.

I usually help my friends who wanted to have a better pronunciation..but all I did was take them to the karaoke bar (if you ever go to Japanese karaoke bar..it's pretty much like that) and told them to sing..they spoke (sang actually lol) for 3 hours..

they were getting better and they get the confident boost because they have a better pronunciation and that made them not afraid to talk to natives..as long as you confidence about your English then you will be able to step further ;)

fight fight!

I think your prime meaning is to express your career, but your poor oral English.ok! Could you tell us what is your speciality? And what is your subjects? Most chinese would find what they studied in their colleges are useless, and that is not inflenced them. I am a obvious example, what I am doing now is not as the same as I learn.

above all, choose your career first, try to be fit for it second.

Hi.fastry!

i'm sure thousands of college students are faced with the same situation as you do. so absolutely you are not alone. i have a friend, who is having his second year of college. when he got the news that he could go to his favorite university, worries just came along with excitement. he became worried about what he would do when he graduate from the college.college students are undergoing serious stress. they are afraid of living in the adult world, where there are a lot of responsibilities to take. it seems horrible. but everyone needs to take this challenge. everyone can manage it. so can you. at present, your problem is just that you speak poor oral english. and what you should do is just to try hard to improve it…no big deal. there is no reason to doubt your ability to start a great career.so have more faith in yourself. speak english aloud, and you telling us your problem in here is a good start. you have got half of the success!good for you!

You should spend hours every day listening to English. You need what language teachers call "input", that is your brain needs to have a lot of opportunities to process the language.

Whatever career you choose, being fluent in a foreign language (particularly English) has been shown to double your salary.

The best way to learn English is practicing. Speak English all the time. If you go to the park, in your house, your work, etc. Try to speak it all the time. Listen to English channels and write many compositions in English.
