Hello!!!

Help with Chinese! Could a native Chinese speaker tell me if these sentences are correct? I am not sure. I am afraid that I made many mistakes. Any help that could be given would be greatly appreciated!

Dear aljensen,

In these sentences you have expressed are talking about the marital status. So I think that this word "single" ought to be translated as "unmarried" 未婚.

Then he is single means 他還未婚。This way would be close to the real meaning. What do you think ?

i think Chinese translation is very flexible .

your sentences are ok.

but i think these sentences :

你 喜欢 是 单身 吗? Do you like being single?

她 喜欢 是 单身。She likes being single.

刘 先生 不 喜欢 是 单身。Mr. Liu does not like being single.

这位 老师 不 喜欢 是 单身。The teacher does not like being single.

我 喜欢 是 单身。I like being single

you needn‘t add” 是 “

Do you like being single? 你喜欢单身吗 ?or 你喜欢未婚吗?

She likes being single. 她喜欢单身。

Mr. Liu does not like being single. 刘先生不喜欢单身。

The teacher does not like being single.这位老师不喜欢单身。

I like being single。我喜欢单身。

good job

personally, when it comes to oral chinese,i think 单身 is better than 未婚.未婚 is too normal.

"Single" in this sense really means "available to date" which means that the person does not have a girlfriend or boyfriend, and isn't married.

But the basic meaning is just "does not have a partner".

单身:没有女朋友的成年人;没有固定女朋友的成年人;结过婚但离异或鳏寡而居的成年人。single:the person does not have a girl or boy friend, the divorced person or bereft of one's spouse
未婚:包括没有举办民俗婚礼或未领结婚证的成年人 unmarried:including the person didn't go through with the marriage or the person didn't received marriage certificate.

"喜欢" and "是" both are verb.just one ver.so you can say"你喜欢单身吗?" not "你喜欢是单身吗?"

hah  my english is poor . so i don't know if you understand my words or not.

remember the bold is the point!!

Keep your fingers crossed!

Dear aljensen,

I got to say something very important to these two nouns 單身,未婚。

In Taiwan,if you declare 未婚, it means you have never married before. If you declare 單身, it means you have no family of yourown at present, besides it had a hidden meaning that you could just divorce your wife.

So what I have to emphasize is that 單身 in marital status means not honest to the other party.

Therefore,if you marry a single girl , then she is very likely a second hand.It is not just a matter of normal or not.

You are a good boy. Be careful ! May God bless you !

Amen !

I think that level of Chinese is too advanced for me! I am still at a fairly basic level. So I can't really pick up cultural nuances like that. Embarassed
