Islam: A religion of peace and tolerance or terrorism?

(2:191)And slay them wherever ye catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for persecution and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque, unless they (first) fight you there; but if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who suppress faith.

(9:123)O ye who believe! fight the unbelievers who are near to you, and let them find harshness in you: and know that Allah is with those who fear Him.

(9:5)But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and pay Zakat, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft- forgiving, Most Merciful.

(25:52)Therefore listen not to the Unbelievers, but strive against them with the utmost strenuousness,...

(66:9)O Prophet! Strive hard against the Unbelievers and the Hypocrites, and be harsh with them. Their abode is Hell,- an evil refuge (indeed).

(47:4)Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks; at length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind (the captives) firmly: thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom: until the war lays down its burdens. Thus (are ye commanded): but if it had been Allah's Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah,- He will never let their deeds be lost.

(9:29)Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth, from among the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

(3:85)If anyone desires a religion other than Islam(submission to Allah), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost.

(9:23)O ye who believe! take not for protectors your fathers and your brothers if they love Infidelity above Faith: if any of you do so, they do wrong.

I do not know how reality is the situation in your country
But I know how the situation in the Arab  country
what  i see  that  Muslims and non-Muslims live in harmony
Working with   each  othrs  .. studying together … and marry each other

I think really is silly and foolish  to deal diffreint  with   who diffreint  in ide  

There is a large number of problem in the muslim world but this has nothing to do with the Islam itself, Islam promote inventions, science, etc. it show you how to pass hurdles, how you sleep, how you eat etc. etc.

Islam is perfect, the muslims aren´t, the muslim world looks like europe in the middle ages but this is not a problem of Islam, the muslims astrayed thats the problem.

Ryo… Also in my country muslims and non-muslims can live in harmony and except some isolated attacks on non-muslims this does not lead to a clash indeed. But turkey is an exceptional country in many ways. Religion practically does not exist in turkey. Over %90 is muslim but they are not consumed by religious fervor. People practice religion in a very flexible way. I just wonder what those verses mean. As an humble reader I get what the sentences semantically sound like to any human ear. But qoran sounds like "mein kampf" when I get the sentences literally.

By the way… Manar? Have you met mmemmoo? I think you are at same age

These verses were made during the war, the arabs wanted to stop the influence of the muslims, they fight the muslims and called even for support from the byzantian empire, but by the way the suras that you quote are quite wrong wheere you got these translations?

It is neither. it is the people who are either tolerant or not. for example, the "Islam is number 1" chanters are an example if the intolerant ones who don't even realize their short-sightedness. There are also very tolerant members of the Islam community who recognize that it may be the best religion for them, but not the only religion of merit.

the words "Islam" and "terror" cannot stand side by side, and that no divine religion permits violence. The word "Islam" is derived from the word meaning "peace" in Arabic. Islam is a religion revealed to mankind with the intention of presenting a peaceful life through which the infinite compassion and mercy of God manifest on earth. God calls all people to Islamic morals through which compassion, mercy, peace and tolerance can be experienced all over the world. In Sura Baqara, verse 208, God addresses believers as follows: O You who believe! Enter absolutely into peace (Islam). Do not follow in the footsteps of Satan. He is an outright enemy to you.

As the verse makes clear, security can only be ensured by "entering into Islam", that is, living by the values of the Qur'an.

The values of the Qur'an hold a Muslim responsible for treating all people, whether Muslim or non-Muslim, kindly and justly, protecting the needy and the innocent and "preventing the dissemination of mischief". Mischief comprises all forms of anarchy and terror that remove security, comfort and peace. As God says in Sura 2 verse 205, "God does not love corruption". Murdering a person for no reason is one of the most obvious examples of mischief. God repeats in the Qur'an in Sura 5 verse 32, a command He formerly revealed to Jews in the Old Testament thus: ...if someone kills another person – unless it is in retaliation for someone else or for causing corruption in the earth – it is as if he had murdered all mankind. And if anyone gives life to another person, it is as if he had given life to all mankind...

As the verse suggests, a person who kills even a single man, "unless it is in retaliation for someone else or for causing corruption in the earth", commits a crime as if he had murdered all mankind. This being the case, it is obvious what great sins are the murders, massacres and attacks, popularly known as "suicide attacks", committed by terrorists. God informs us how this cruel face of terrorism will be punished in the hereafter in Sura 42, verse 42 as follows: There are only grounds against those who wrong people and act as tyrants in the earth without any right to do so. Such people will have a painful punishment.

All these reveal that organizing acts of terror against innocent people is utterly against Islam and it is unlikely that any Muslim could ever commit such crimes. On the contrary, Muslims are responsible for stopping these people, removing "mischief on earth" and bringing peace and security to all people all over the world. Islam cannot be reconciled with terror. Just the contrary, it should be the solution to and the path to the prevention of terror.
