Why is English so popular?

I am just a little confused about that, it seems study english is becoming a very important task for people in this world, in china, even the children in kindergarten should study english nowadays, i know english is important and it is very helpful and useful for whom can grasp it, but why? and when does it began to be the global language? is english such necessary?

I'm from China,And I am a  high school student,Now I have to study English very hard .Because Enligh is a very important in China . many countries all speak English,you know,there are most people in the world  are Chinese ,I think ,This is for the sake of better exchanges in the whole world.And 2008 Olympic Games will hold in  beijing,!so we should learn English well ,that we can do something  for 2008 Olympic Games.

nowadays english is becoming a tool in the hole word's communicate .so we must master it .It became to be the global  language not  in noadays but in a long time ago .there are many reasons .No mather what are they ,what  we should do is to master it  and  to use it .

I   agree   with   you!  my  teacher  told  us  the  tool   will   bring  us  many  chances  to   develop   ourselves  and  find  our   ablity  to  the   languange.I  enter  the  college  only  for   three  months,I   can't  find   my  purpose   sometimes,but   I   pormise  myself   that   do  my  best   to  learn   English,because   I   will  need   it   for  my   life  and   work   in   the   future!

The international exchange language is English. It is very important for us to communicate with people around the would. We must learn it well so as to know more about various culture and custom from all over the would. Do you think of it? I would like to make new friends.It's better to improve my level.

yes, i got all your ideas, i know english is important,but i just wondering why it is…i just feel a little unfair with those people who are english native-speakers, they can go all around the world without language barries because of everywhere is study english actively…

but on the other hand, due to this situation, such huge pressure, we try hard to study english, when we can really master it, it will lead us to a new amazing world, we can konw more information about a foreign language and culture, this is what native-speakers can not reach…is that right?

and just because of this, we can make friends here, hehe~
