Pearl Jam is still going strong. Formed in 1990, this American rock band is one of the Big Four of the Grunge scene, along with Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden. Over the years, the band has not only rocked fans worldwide, but also has participated in political activism. They even wrote a song about George W. Bush.

Lead vocalist Eddie Vedder was on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine in June of this year.

The band is on a world tour right now for their most recent album, called Pearl Jam. They will play in cities across the US, and then head to the UK, Europe and Australia. Emily and Logan went to a Pearl Jam concert a couple of weeks ago. It was at an outdoor ampitheater in the Columbia Gorge. Listen to them talk about it.

Emily:  The show was so good. It was, like, a big all day concert event.

Logan:  It was. And, like, they… and half of the fun up there is the camping part of it too, you know, the… the tents and you know, all the, the honey buckets, which are interesting…

Emily:  And hang, getting to hang out with all your friends and…

Logan:  Yeah. It’s a social gathering and that’s, that’s always fun.

Emily:  Yeah. But the amphitheater up there is very beautiful.

Logan:  Yeah it’s… I think it, it holds, what, 40,000 people so…

Emily:  Yeah. And it was so pretty when the sun was setting and they were playing. It was just a nice mix, music-scenery combo.

Logan:  It’s a good way to end the day, end the day, for sure.

Emily:  I agree.

Logan:  I thought the best part of the show ‘cause I went to see ‘em last year and there was an acoustic set last year for the first ten songs and then they came out with some rock and roll. But this year, it was pretty much… it was a shorter show, a more condensed show with just hard, hard music. There wasn’t much, there wasn’t many slow times basically. They were shredding the entire time. So I thought that was interesting and it also made it go faster and it was just too hot to stay out there any longer, so I enjoyed that.

Emily:  And it was just cool knowing that it was the last, um, the last show for, on their tour.

Logan:  Of the US tour, yeah.

Emily:  So, I don’t know… I, I don’t know how many, uh, Eddie Vedder fans there are overseas, but we definitely, definitely like him over here.

Discussion

Logan and Emily had a great time at the show. The music was great and the setting was perfect.

Emily liked watching the sunset during the concert.

Logan described the show by saying they were shredding. That means they were really rocking out.

Pearl Jam helped to put Grunge music on the map. Have you ever heard them? Are you a fan?
