What did you dream about last night? We usually dream of people and things that are familiar to us. But sometimes we dream of people we just met or things that just happened. Scientists aren’t really sure what causes certain things to appear in our dreams and certain things to be left out.

Kevin recently dreamed very clearly of a person he had just met. It was a little off putting, but not exactly a nightmare. When Kevin tells Marni about his dream, she describes a nightmare she has to him.

Kevin:  I woke up the other day having had a very vivid dream of a person I had met the night before at a party, but I had just met the first time.

Marni:  Really?

Kevin:  It was a little bit creepy.

Marni:  Why was it creepy?

Kevin:  Well, just because I didn’t know that person and I feel like it’s sort of an intimate space…

Marni:  Yeah!

Kevin:  ...because it was a dream and it was very vivid because it was the kind of thing that I had just before I woke up, so it was very clear throughout the day and it made me a little uncomfortable.

Marni:  I have recurring dreams actually about an ex-boyfriend...

Kevin:  Oh…

Marni:  ...and we’re still together and in my dream I’m wondering, “Why are we still together? I don’t want to be with this person.” But constantly I’m going back to that previous relationship.

Kevin:  Like how often? In terms of like, once a month?

Marni:  I would say probably once a month.

Kevin:  Interesting.

Marni:  Yeah. And I, you know, I’m wondering if I…You think about your subconscious and all that but, I don’t know, it just keeps coming up and I wish it would stop.

Kevin:  Well, I can understand. So is that dream the same, or it’s just he’s in a dream again and again?

Marni:  Variation on a same theme of being with this person and not wanting to be and trying to get away from him and yeah…

Kevin:  A little bit scary…

Marni:  But do you find that we talk about our dreams a lot?

Kevin:  All the time.

Marni:  Oh, it’s great.

Kevin:  Even with people we don’t really know well.

Discussion

Kevin had a dream about someone he had just met. It made him a little uncomfortable, but Marni has a dream over and over that really bothers her. She dreams that she is still with an ex-boyfriend who she’s glad she broke up with. It’s not exactly the same dream every time, but the ex is always there and she is unable to get away from him.

Kevin and Marni like to talk about their dreams. Do you? Do you have any recurring dreams? What’s the scariest nightmare you’ve ever had?

Once I dreamt about a woman who committed suicide falling on the subway rails. Next day it happened. I was commuting from my work and I was traveling by subway, then the subway stopped and all people were running from one place to another. I heard someone asking: Did you see how she jump? Then,  I knew a woman had committed suicide. We waited for hours!!!

The cousin of my husband used to live in other city (400km away from my city). He often visited us. We all get on well together, including my kids. He was a nice man, with a good sense of humour. Suddenly, the cancer has been discovered in his body….. one month later he has died :( He  has not  even managed to visit us before his death. The amazing thing is he keeps on “visiting” my family in my night dreams on the regular basis( he has dead 6 years ago!!! – not recently) We are talking, walking, laughing as before. When I wake up I understood that it was a dream, but very vivid dream!!! I usually scared so much after that dream, because the very thought, that I have been in the contact with the dead person reminds me about the death once more.

After a few days my sister died. I dreamed about her. It seems like she came to my dream to answer my questions. It's very peaceful, however, in my dreams.

One day I was hesitating to take back my books from my ex-boyfriend. At that night, I dreamed about her and she said that she would like to do sightseeing. I replied "but I need to prepare for the test…" However, the scene of the dream changed to a car and I seated in that car with the books. Next morning, I woke up and  dashed to my ex-boyfriend's house…I brought back my books in the end. I really appreciate my sister even though I can never meet her again.

It happened for several times. Every time I was suspicious and fearful… I dreamed of her.

i'm wondering if it was my subconscious or it was really my sister in my dream..@@

Among my creepiest nightmares, which have dealt with enigmatic and disturbing figures like zombies, beggars, midgets, robbers, circus clowns, mummies, femme fatales, vampires and even satan himself…I'd say the weirdest, most agonizing dream of my life was one of a kind…

Judgement day had arrived, the earth was crumbling with death, screams, corpses and whatnot… suddenly I was in a hill, a very bright and green hill where I was forming a line with thousands of people (familiar faces, relatives, friends and strangers)

then God (yes, the man himself) came down a UFO (as you are reading) he was an alien, very tall (like 7 f or so) and he started giving everybody something in the palm of their hands, he put his index finger into the palm of the right hand of everybody in the line. when he took away his finger from the palm, he left in something like a tattoo there, an image of a coloured circle.

Very few people had red circles. most of the people had green, and when my turn was up, he gave me a white cirlce. I asked him what all that colours meant, so he replied (without words…telephathy I guess?) that green meant they were going to the garden of eden, red was hell and white was purgatory, the absolute nothingness. After that terrifying words, I started to cry, but I was transported to that place, I was standing in what looked like a tower, but around the tower was all darkness…and I cried and cried…and when I woke up I was full of tears… thinking god had punish me for something. I will never forget the agony of that nightmare.

I am agnostic by the way…

Is there anybody there who can 'interpret' my dream?
