Hello!
Pets are important part of many people’s lives. Pets, like dogs and cats, can be good friends and activity partners. Playing with a pet can be lots of fun, and unlike some human friends, pets always have plenty of time and energy to spend with their owners.
I have a beautiful dog named Mason. I got him when he was a small puppy, so he’s been a big part of my life for a long time. Mason is about to reach an important milestone. Listen in to my conversation with Miguel to find out what that milestone is and how I plan to celebrate it.

Miguel:  What’s up Beth?

Beth:  Not a whole lot. Just, uh, looking forward to the weekend.

Miguel:  Why? What are your plans?

Beth:  Well, I’m gonna hang out with some friends and we’re going to have a little party for my dog because it’s his tenth birthday.

Miguel:  That’s interesting. So it’s your dog’s birthday party? What, what kind of gifts is he gonna get?

Beth:  You know, the usual dog gifts – probably some treats, maybe a new leash, uh, maybe some extra tennis balls, some bones.

Miguel:  That sounds really exciting. So you’re actually inviting friends over for his birthday party?

Beth:  Yeah. I had this idea of inviting all of my friends with their dogs to come over, but I realized that that could get a little out of control. So, I’ll probably just have some friends over and just celebrate, uh, with one dog.

Miguel:  Cool! Does the dog have any favorite activity that you’re gonna to let him do on his birthday, like chew up a teddy bear or something?

Beth:  Oh no, he’s not a chewer, but we’ll probably go out and play fetch for a long time. That’s his favorite thing to do, and we’ll probably hang around and cuddle.

Discussion

This weekend is going to be so much fun! I’ve invited about fifteen people over for Mason’s birthday party and all of them are going to bring him presents. I haven’t decided exactly what we’re going to do at the party, but I know it will be a great time.
Have a great week!
Beth
