The original Karate Kid movie inspired an entire generation of boys to start practicing their kicks and chops. Now a remake of the film starring Jaden Smith, Will Smith’s son, has hit the theaters.

In the new movie, Jaden plays a young boy whose family moves to Beijing, where the boy learns how to stand up for himself from a wise teacher. Hear why Amy and Mason disagree about this movie.

Amy: I am sort of excited to see the new Karate Kid, I have to say, it looks pretty awesome.

Mason: Really?

Amy: It might be my summer blockbuster.

Mason: Maybe it’s ‘cause you’re a girl, but I mean that in the best way…

Amy: Yeah, that little boy is so cute. That might be part of it.

Mason: Oh, you have a thing for Jaden?

Amy: Kind of.

Mason: Wait, what’s his name? Jaden? Yeah. He can kick really high. I will give them that. I mean, he stepped up for the role. The boy can do the splits.

Amy: Yeah, I’m sure, I mean that kid is like basically, he was just bred to be an adorable movie star, right?

Mason: That’s true. And yet, being a child of the eighties, there is an element of blasphemy in the remaking of Karate Kid, which is where my girl comment comes from. Were you a big original Karate Kid fan?

Amy: No, I was not.

Mason: Ah. So now you’ve got your like, you know, slightly starting to come to fruition maternal instincts being like “Oh Jaden, you’re so cute, I want my sons to take karate.” And I’m like “You are stomping on my childhood fantasies!”

Amy: Yeah, wow, that just…you kinda just shrunk my head there. I sorta just thought I wanted to see a cool karate movie.

Amy is excited to see the new Karate Kid, but Mason is less enthusiastic. He was a huge fan of the original version of the film, which came out in the eighties, when Mason was a kid. He is skeptical of the remake.

Amy admits that she wasn’t a huge fan of the original Karate Kid. Part of the reason she wants to see the remake is that she thinks Jaden Smith, the star of the film, is a really cute kid. Jaden is the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, so it’s not too surprising that he has become an actor, too.

Were you a fan of the original Karate Kid? Have you ever practiced karate?

Absolutely I was a fun of the original Karate kid….all my childhood was built on karate, Jackie Chan and east culture)...so I've had positive feelings after viewing the film,of course something wasn't perfect but in whole it's a good movie.

I saw parts of the movie in Youtube. It's cool. I like karate myself. So far as Youtube is concerned, I like the comics by Jon Lajoie and " ask Shane". For entertainment with English lesson, I really like " Hot for words".

havent watched the movie yet, but I dont expect a real martial arts film like that of the eighties since I dont expect professional moves from a little kid. But I think the movie might be nice, and I will watch it when I have time..

I have done Taekwondo when I was a kid and I admire nearly all kinds of Martial Arts and all the movies that include it. I think Martial Arts is awesome and everyone should be able to defend himself with it.

i love the movie a lot. i've never practiced karate even though i wanted to, but i admire the point of karate in the story,that karate is to defend,not to fight.maybe it's because the actors/actresses who can successfully play their part, so that i enjoy it very much

I'm not a fan of the original Karate Kid, because I haven't seen it, but I agree with Amy, Jaden Smith is a very cute boy and that's not strange, I mean his parents are Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. They also have a daughter and she's just pretty as the boy.

I have never practiced karate and I don't think I will, but I can do the splits.

I'm a Jackie Chan movie fan.
As a kung-fu teacher, I love to see martial arts movies (Forbiden Kingdom, Police Story 1, 2, 3 and some other). But I prefer to see the movie then give a opinion after that.
