Zaza Pachulia has made a fantastic career in sports. The Georgian basketball player started his professional career in Turkey at age 14 and now plays for the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA.

While his job is to play a sport, Zaza’s favorite hobby is to collect and sport cool clothing. Sport, as a verb, means to wear something. It’s a common slang term in fashion, which is something Zaza knows a lot about. Sports Illustrated recently chose him as one of the most fashionable players in the NBA.

Basketball players like to dress well to arrive at the arena before changing into their uniforms for the game. Watch as Zaza shows Jason the outfit he plans to wear to that night’s game.

Jason:  Welcome to English, baby! I’m Jason here with Zaza Pachulia of the Atlanta Hawks. You’ve got a lot of fashion knowledge. You were voted one of the most fashionable players by the other players in the NBA.

Zaza:  There are a lot of players in the league who, you know, are into fashion, and it’s pretty challenging actually. Though we’re not competing against each other with fashion, you know, it’s obvious, you see the guys and how they dress up for the games.

Jason:  You’ve got your outfit picked out for the game tonight already, right?

Zaza:  Yeah, we actually play tonight, and it’s been a long trip for us. Five games in seven nights, so. For every game I gotta wear something different. Five games, five different outfits. I’m just gonna show you what I’m gonna wear tonight.

Jason:  Yeah, let’s check it out!

Zaza:  Pink shirt and a blue sweater on the top. I think these two colors really match each other, you know? It’s a good combination. And because we’re gonna travel after the game, right after the game we fly to Denver, I decided to be more comfortable, so I decided to wear jeans. You can’t really wear really ripped jeans because you’re going to the game so you gotta look classier. The white shoes with the brown belt…

Jason:  Is there anything else you’re into sporting right now?

Zaza:  You know, I just really started sporting the socks, especially Paul Smith socks in different colors. Even if the socks are showing, that’s even better. If the jeans are a little bit shorter than normal, then that way you can see the socks. I’m sporting socks right now.

Jason:  Nice!

Zaza:  Bottom line, whatever outfit you wear, it’s gotta fit you and it will look nice on you. You’ve gotta match your character and your personality. So, that’s the key for me and this is how I go!

Jason:  Thanks so much. Can I get you to give me a high five and say, “English, baby!”?

Zaza:  English, baby!
