Halloween has come and gone. The leaves are turning yellow and falling from the trees. It’s that time of year you call your Grandma to get a breakdown of her pumpkin pie recipe. In the evenings, you curl up by the fire and watch your favorite holiday film... the one where the director cast your favorite actor! With snow falling outside, it’s hard to pretend that winter isn’t coming. In fact, it’s just around the corner.
When an event is just around the corner, this means that it is happening very soon. When the fall harvest is over, we know that winter is just around the corner! Just around the corner can also mean that a physical object or destination is very close. For example, if you are giving someone directions to the pumpkin patch, you might say it’s just around the corner from the corn maze.

Nestor |
Kelsey: Hello.
Nestor: Come on in. Do you have your headshot?
Kelsey: Um, yeah. Here you go. Thank you. I mean, sorry. Yeah, Thank you.
Nestor: OK, a little bit about the film. We had cast someone for the role, but they had to back out at the last minute. So, production is just around the corner, next week, to be exact.
Kelsey: OK.
Nestor: All right. So, it’s a scary movie. Did you read the breakdown?
Kelsey: Yes!
Nestor: All right. So, you’re edging along a wall, and you feel like… you feel like around the corner, there might be a door out, or there could be more danger. OK?
Kelsey: Uh, OK. Yeah. OK.
Nestor: And action!
Kelsey: Quick question.
Nestor: Yeah?
Kelsey: Where’s the corner?
Nestor: What?
Kelsey: The corner that I’m about to walk around?
Nestor: It’s in the film. It’s not here.
Kelsey: Oh!
Nestor: You’ll have to pretend that it’s there.
Kelsey: Here?
Nestor: There.
Kelsey: Oh, here.
Nestor: Wherever. Ready?
Kelsey: Um, OK!
Nestor: And action!
Kelsey: Hey! I have an idea! Can I try something?
Nestor: Sure. Why not? You’re the last person I have coming in, and I live just around the corner, so why not?
Kelsey: Great! Just give me a second!

Kelsey enters the audition room and hands her headshot to Nestor, the director of the film. Nestor tells her that the actor they had cast had to back out, so they need to find a new actor very quickly. The shoot date for the film is just around the corner.
Nestor tells Kelsey that the film is going to be scary. He asks her to pretend that she is edging along a wall and that something dangerous is just around the corner. Kelsey suddenly has an idea. She tells the director she’ll be right back, and she runs out of the room.
What do you think is just around the corner for Kelsey and her friends? Do you have anything important to do, just around the corner?
