Established in 1982, the Intensive English Language Center (IELC) provides English language instruction to students preparing for university study and to students wishing to improve their general English ability. 

IELC HAS THREE MAIN GOALS:

1. Teaching you the language and study skills necessary for successful university level study
2. Introducing you to American culture and university life
3. Helping you with the transition from ESL to academic studies

IELC Programs at a glance:

  • 20 class hours per week

Location
The University of Nevada, Reno is located at the base of the beautiful Sierra-Nevada Mountains, just four hours by car from San Francisco. The Reno-Tahoe area is known as the entertainment and recreation capital of the west, offering limitless year round recreational activities.  Reno is a safe, small city environment with big city attractions.

Teaching Qualifications

MA or Ph.D in TESOL, Linguistics or related fields. All instructors have experience teaching and living abroad.

There are seven on-campus dormitories offering a variety of options, as well as numerous apartments within walking distance of university.

Transportation
Reno-Tahoe International airport is 10 minutes by car from the University. Students can arrange to be met at the airport by a university official.  There is no charge for this service.  Taxis are also readily available at the airport.
