Bumper Stickers

Do you know what are bumper stickers?

They are stickers which someone puts on the back of his/her car just for fun, or whatever..

Having fun checking out some bumper stickers:

We are born naked, wet, and hungry. Then things get worse.

I didn't fight my way to the top of the food chain to be a vegetarian.

Time is what keeps everything from happening at once.

What is a "free" gift ? Aren't all gifts free?

It's as BAD as you think, and they ARE out to get you.

Sorry, I don't date outside my species.

If you don't like the news, go out and make some.

Time is the best teacher - unfortunately it kills all its students!

I like you, but I wouldn't want to see you working with sub-atomic particles!

How can I miss you if you won't go away?

My karma ran over your dogma.

I is a college student.

If you can read this, I'm not impressed. Most people can read.

I brake for no apparent reason.

Energizer Bunny arrested, charged with battery.

All I want is less to do, more time to do it, and higher pay for not getting it done.

The Schizophrenic: An Unauthorized Autobiography

Nobody's perfect. I'm a Nobody.

My wife said "If you go hunting or fishing one more time I'm going to leave you" ...I'm going to miss her.

Ask me about my vow of silence.

Why do psychics have to ask you for your name?

I intend to live forever - so far, so good.

Who is General Failure and why is he reading my hard disk?

What happens if you get scared half to death twice?

I used to have an open mind but my brain kept falling out.

All those who believe in psychokinesis raise my hand.

I'm out of bed and dressed, What more do you want?

BAD COP! NO DONUT!!!

On the other hand, you have different fingers.

I want to die in my sleep like my grandfather... not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car!

I souport frii edyukasion!

Well, this day was a total waste of makeup.

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.

Honk if you love peace and quiet.

A day without sunshine is like, you know, night.

Atheism is a non-prophet organization.

Reality is the only obstacle to happiness.

Everyone has a photographic memory. Some don't have film.

Earn cash in your spare time... blackmail friends.

Health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.

It works better if you plug it in.

A penny saved is... ridiculous.

Anarchy is better than no government at all.

Any small object when dropped will hide under a larger object.

Telepaths wanted: you know where to apply.

I'm just driving this way to get you mad.

You! Off my planet!

How do I set the laser printer to stun?

Don't bother me. I'm living happily ever after.

I started out with nothing & still have most of it left.

Editing is a rewording activity.

Make yourself at home... clean my kitchen!

I'm just working here until a good fast food job opens up...

Chaos. Panic. Disorder. My work here is done.

Too many freaks, not enough circuses.

Where there's a will... I want to be in it.

Don't drink and drive! You might hit a bump and spill your beer.

Be nice to your kids. They are the guys who will pick out your nursing home.

Always remember you're unique... Just like everyone else.

So you're a feminist? Isn't that cute!

Out of my mind... Back in five minutes.

I took an IQ test and the results were negative.

You're only jealous because the voices are talking to me and not you!

Don't get me mad! I'm running out of places to hide the bodies!

You are depriving some poor village of its idiot!

Forget world peace. Visualize using your turn signal.

Some people are only alive because it is illegal to shoot them.

Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.

We have enough youth, how about a fountain of SMART?

Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere may be happy.

Few women admit their age. Few men act theirs.

I love animals, they taste great.

EARTH FIRST! We'll stripmine the other planets later.

"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

He who laughs last thinks slowest!

A letter to Sun

A letter to Sun

Hi dear Sun:

Frankly, I don't know from where I should start my letter. It's really hard to know you were wrong for ages. But now, I got the truth. I got your address from someone whom I promise him to don't say his name. And it's my honor to send you a letter at least to express my apology.

I used to think, I am the most pretty in the world. Always when I awake up many humans look at me emotionally. They call me as a symbol of beauty. I can remember many love stories which they swear to me to keep it. If one day I decided to wake up late, there were many eyes that were searching to see me. And I was so proud of them. But now, I got it was a kind of silly. Oh!! God, how stupid I was. Look, it's not a confession. It's just a ….. , just a …….. I don't know.

In the end, I want to thank you for your kindness. Many thanks to you who give me life. Many thanks to you who make such a thing that I am now. Many thanks to your lights which I am nothing without them. Many thanks to your modesty. Many thanks to your gentleness. Many thanks to you Sun.

Faithfully Yours,

Moon

Kich the ball Harder !!

Kich the ball Harder !!

Some minutes ago when I was going to buy something for dinner, I faced a scene which was enough important to write some line about it.

There was a 7-year-old boy who was playing with a ball with himself. He just was kicking the ball, then running to get that. First I passed it, but I thought, it is a kind of silly. He kicked the ball as hard as he could, so it took more energy of him to reach the ball, however he could do it with less energy. I decided to tell him this, so I got back to him and told him. I got so surprised at his answer. He said "You know why? 'cause I enjoy following the ball, so I try to kick the ball harder to have more fun. It's exciting. Wanna experience it?" I accepted. I kicked the ball very hard, and then ran to get it. Also I couldn't enjoy it as he could, but the important thing was that, I did my best and got the ball. It made me happy, although it took me some energy; it was worth a try at least just for the smile that appeared on my face when I got the ball.

The point is here, sometimes we give our efforts up, because we can do it with less energy, but we suppose to forget that we can enjoy it more when we try more. Or sometimes we give our efforts up, because we reach a part of our aim, and it not important for us to continue our duties.

It's a lesson that we can get from that 7-year-old boy.

Wanna enjoy your life more? Kick the ball harder next time.

Be HAPPY !!!!

Be HAPPY !!!!

Decide to be a happy person. As Lincoln observed, most people, most of the time, can choose how stressed or happy, how troubled or relaxed they want to be. Choose to be happy.

Watch and Read less news. As a recovering news addict, I know this can be difficult because the stock market fluctuates, politicians politic, and sports teams compete. But, most of the time, you don’t need the stress. So, just don’t watch. I think it was Henry Thoreau who noted that if you’ve ever read about a train wreck, you understand the principle and don’t need to know any more about it.

Practice the Attitude of Gratitude. We all have so much to be grateful for. Just thanking the many people who assist us, encourage us, teach us and open doors for us could take all day!

Take Time. My dog has taught me much about loyalty, about noticing the sights, sounds, and smells in the yard, about being relaxed and about play. Eat when you’re hungry, nap when you need it. Get your ears scratched whenever possible!

Laugh everyday. Hear a joke, tell a joke, laugh at yourself, laugh with your friends and family and co-workers. There are very few medicines as powerful as laughter, and I don’t think you can over-dose, although it is addicting!

Love well. Express your affection, appreciation, friendship and warmth to those around you, and they will almost always respond in the most amazing ways! Be generous…it pays great dividends!

Work hard. This one comes as a bit of a surprise, but there is tremendous satisfaction in being competent, and joy in completing our assigned tasks. One of the great sources of happiness is to do work that is worthy of you, and to do it well.

Learn something new, everyday. To be happy, most of us must also be growing, expanding, learning and challenging ourselves. Read, listen, adapt and stretch to accommodate new ideas and new information.

Use your body as it was designed. Walk and run, stretch, throw things, and lift things. Dance! Exercise is good, but so is making love, mixing up a batch of cookies, or exchanging backrubs. You have a body and it can be either a source of joy, or a source of aches and pains. Your choice.

Avoid toxins. I prefer writing positives (things to do) rather than negatives (things to fear), but reality says there are negative people and there are bad chemicals, stressful noises, and unsafe places. Don’t go there! Avoid poisons whenever possible. It seems to work out better that way.

Believe in Yourself

Believe in Yourself

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there. To serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help figure out who you are or who you want to become.

You never know who these people may be but when you lock eyes with them, you know that very moment that they will affect your life in some profound way. And sometimes things happen to you at the time that may seem horrible, painful and unfair, but in reflection you realize that without overcoming those obstacles you would have never realized your potential, strength, will power or heart.

Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by means of good luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without these small tests, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere. Safe and comfortable but dull and utterly pointless.

The people you meet affect your life. The successes and downfalls that you experience can create who you are, and the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are probably the most poignant and important ones.

If someone hurts you, betrays you or breaks your heart, forgive them because they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious to whom you open your heart.

If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally, not only because they love you, but because they are teaching you to love and to open your heart and eyes to little things. Make every day count.

Appreciate every moment and take from it everything that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again.

Talk to people you have never talked to before, and actually listen. Let
yourself fall in love, break free and set your sights high.

Hold your head up because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself, for if you don't believe in
yourself, no one else will believe in you. Create your own life and then go out and live it.

"If you take your eyes off your goals, all you see are obstacles."

Source: http://www.godswork.org

Motivation

Motivation

Ask any person who is successful in whatever he or she is doing what motivates him/her, and very likely the answer will be "goals". Goal Setting is extremely important to motivation and success. So what motivates you? Why are you in college? If you are in college because that's what your parents want, you may find it difficult to motivate yourself. Sure, it's possible to succeed with someone else providing the motivation for you. ("If you graduate from college, I'll give you a car!" or worse "If you don't graduate from college, you won't get a car.") But motivation that comes from within really makes the difference.

Certainly, you need some intelligence, knowledge base, study skills, and time management skills, but if you don't have motivation, you won't get far. Think about this analogy. You have a car with a full tank of gas, a well-tuned engine, good set of tires, quadraphonic CD system, and a sleek, polished exterior. There it sits. This car has incredible potential. (Have you heard that before?) However, until a driver sits behind the wheel, puts the key in the ignition, and cranks it up, the car doesn't function. You guessed it; the KEY is MOTIVATION.

Interest is an important motivator for a student. So is a desire to learn. When you link these two things together, you create success. Often success in an endeavor leads to more interest and a greater desire to learn, creating an upward spiral of motivation toward a goal you have established.

So be honest with yourself. Are you genuinely interested in being in college? Have you set realistic goals for yourself? How can you develop the internal motivation that really counts? When it comes to motivation, KNOWING is not as important as DOING.

Source: http://www.d.umn.edu

Gain People's Respect

Gain People's Respect

Being respected is something that is very important. We all want our coworkers, friends and family to look up to us and think of us as quality individuals. Gaining respect can be difficult, if people aren't used to giving it to you.

The best way to earn respect is by meaning what you say. Be honest at all times. People want to be around someone who is truthful. Don't make promises you cannot keep and don't give people false impressions. This is simply a disaster waiting to happen. If people know they can count on what you say, they will automatically respect you more.

Don't badmouth other people. When you talk negatively about someone else, the person you're talking to often wonders if you're doing the same thing to them behind their back. Do give your honest opinion about others if asked, but don't make a secret about it. If you don't like the way John Doe treats his employees by all means tell people, but be ready to tell John Doe as well.

Figure out what you want to be respected for and go after it. Wanting to be respected is a very general thing. Do you want to be respected as a savvy businessman or a genuine family man? Everyone wants to be admired and respected for different things. Figure out what's important to you and make it your goal to further that ambition. Don't make a blanket statement to yourself simply noting that you want to be respected.

Respect can be a tricky word. Sometimes people can respect you for things you don't like about yourself. The most important thing is that you have self-respect. If everyone in the world respects you, it doesn't matter at all if you don't respect yourself. Figure out your strong points and where you want to improve.

Source: http://www.ineedmotivation.com

Phonetic Symbols

As you probably know, phonetic symbols are a great help when it comes to learning to pronounce English words correctly. Any time you open a dictionary, you can find the correct pronunciation of words you don't know by looking at the phonetic pronunciation that follows the word. Unfortunately, learning the phonetic alphabet is not always the easiest thing to do.

In English, as you certainly know, many words can have the same pronunciation but be written differently with different meanings. For example "to, two, and too" which all have the phonetic transcription /tu/. Sometimes, words can be written similarly but have different pronunciations as in the "ough" combinations thought, though, bough, and through. Another factor in pronunciation is the how the word is stressed. Understanding the phonetic alphabet can greatly simplify the learning process, especially for students who do not have the opportunity to work with a teacher.

You can find phonetic symbols here

Hollywood

An area of the city of Los Angeles famous primarily for its association with the film industry,

Hollywood was originally a small independent agricultural community. It merged with Los Angeles in 1910 in order to obtain an adequate water supply. At approximately the same time, the film industry began to locate in the region, seeking to take advantage of natural sunlight that allowe year-round filming and a diverse southern California landscape that provided cheap scenery.

In 1914, the director Cecil B. DeMille decided to locate his studio in Hollywood permanently, and other companies followed. By the 1920s, Hollywood had beaten out rivals such as Culver City and Burbank as the place most associated with the film industry, although in fact movie lots were scattered throughout the Los Angeles area. The growing power and romance of film made Hollywood a cultural icon and a major tourist attraction. In the 1950s and 1960s, Hollywood also began to attract television studios and record companies. While still home to many entertainment-related companies and remaining a popular destination for starstruck visitors, the area's actual role in film production began to lag in the 1970s. Soaring production and living costs in Los Angeles led many companies to seek opportunities elsewhere, and Hollywood itself struggled with problems associated with urban blight.

Finding Friends

Finding Friends

Do you have a lot of friends? Is it easy for you to introduce yourself to people? Do others ask you to go to activities with them? Are you invited to parties? If you want to persuade a teacher, boss, or your parents to do something, do you usually succeed? When you need to get help from a salesperson in a store, can you usually get it?

If you answered "yes" to most of these questions, you may have a good ability to get along with others. This will be a tremendous help in getting and keeping a job. Some people with learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, and dyslexia are very skilled in connecting with other people. Having a disability may have taught them teamwork as they negotiated the help they needed.

If you have good social graces, be proud of them. But there are always ways to make them better. And that effort is worth it. Each year, the ability to get along with others, lead them, persuade them, and inspire them becomes more critical to professional and personal success.

Accent

Obviously, we all want to sound as authentic as possible when we are speaking a foreign language. Accent, pronunciation, intonation and elocution all play a part.

Don’t forget that you can make yourself understood perfectly well even if you retain a foreign accent. What is more important is to avoid pronunciation errors, for instance pronouncing “tough” and “dough” the wrong way round in English. You can look up the correct pronunciation of individual words in a dictionary.

If you have the transcription of a recording which you have worked on for listening skills, try to say it with the tape when you last play it, so that you can shadow the intonation.

Do not be afraid of exaggerating intonation patterns and emotional tones: it is better than sounding monotonous and flat, and if you go over the top a bit at the beginning, your speech patterns will soon settle on a natural sounding level.

Finally, as important as accent and intonation is elocution. Do not mumble, do not swallow the end of words, do not rush through what you want say. Make sure you make yourself as audible as possible. Then people will understand you, and listen to you!

Accuracy

Accuracy

Don’t be afraid of making mistakes: we all make them, even in our own language!

*Your main aim is to learn to express yourself increasingly freely: in real life situations, people are more interested in what you say than in whether you are making mistakes or not. So, although some mistakes can really be funny, the worst that can happen is that you laugh with others! And many mistakes are not really that important if they do not distort the meaning of you want to say.

*However, to develop fluency, you must go through the learning process, which means focusing on accuracy in the classroom and during homework. Otherwise, you will not be able to consolidate and improve your performance.

*Equally, don’t be afraid of having your mistakes pointed out to you: this is how you will learn.

*And remember: keep it simple! It is more pleasant to listen to someone who speaks simply, but fluently, than to someone who speaks in a very sophisticated, but hesitant
manner.

Fluency

Fluency

There are quite a few opportunities you can use to improve your fluency:

*When reading, do at least a section of the reading aloud, paying attention to punctuation and logical word groupings.

*When you are doing a listening comprehension exercise, stop the tape and repeat out loud words which are new or seem important: it will help you to memorise them, as well as to improve your pronunciation.

*When preparing tasks such as a presentation, a telephone call or an interview, make sure you learn some usual phrases by heart: they provide the communicative flow, make you sound authentic, create the right impression and help to “get you started”.

*Record yourself and listen to what you sound like. This may well build up your self-confidence, as students often under-estimate their skills out of modestyor shyness.

My favorite color is BLUE

My favorite color is BLUE

Blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven.

Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect. Blue is strongly associated with tranquility and calmness. In heraldry, blue is used to symbolize piety and sincerity.

You can use blue to promote products and services related to cleanliness (water purification filters, cleaning liquids, vodka), air and sky (airlines, airports, air conditioners), water and sea (sea voyages, mineral water). As opposed to emotionally warm colors like red, orange, and yellow; blue is linked to consciousness and intellect. Use blue to suggest precision when promoting high-tech products.

Blue is a masculine color; according to studies, it is highly accepted among males. Dark blue is associated with depth, expertise, and stability; it is a preferred color for corporate America.

Avoid using blue when promoting food and cooking, because blue suppresses appetite. When used together with warm colors like yellow or red, blue can create high-impact, vibrant designs; for example, blue-yellow-red is a perfect color scheme for a superhero.

Light blue is associated with health, healing, tranquility, understanding, and softness.
Dark blue represents knowledge, power, integrity, and seriousness.

Is it Ok to make mistakes?

Is it Ok to make mistakes?

If a student in a language class does not want to speak, the teacher will normally assume they are shy, and will encourage (sometimes force) them to speak. He'll tell the student: "Speak and don't worry about mistakes". After all, speaking practice is more important than making mistakes, isn't it?

The fact is: Mistakes are not harmless. Every time you say an incorrect phrase in a foreign language, you increase the probability that you will say that phrase again. Therefore, if you speak with mistakes, you can easily teach yourself bad grammar.

A lot of people think it's more important to improve your ease of speaking than to improve your correctness. If you follow this path, after some time you may find you can speak the language with ease, but it will be largely your own version of the language — not correct language as it's spoken by native speakers. In other words, you may become quite fluent in speaking the wrong way.

Perhaps such a state is more desirable than not speaking at all. But when bad grammar comes to your mind so easily, it becomes very difficult to improve. When you've been saying things like "He go away" for the last two years, it's not so easy to start saying "He went away" all of a sudden.

The point is that it's hard to go from "fluency with mistakes" to "fluency without mistakes". It's much easier to start from "careful, correct output" and then work on your speed to reach "fluency without mistakes".

source: www.antimoon.com

Cyrus the great
Cyrus the Great (sī'rəs) , d. 529 B.C., king of Persia, founder of the greatness of the Achaemenids and of the Persian Empire. According to Herodotus, he was the son of an Iranian noble, the elder Cambyses, and a Median princess, daughter of Astyages. Many historians, following other ancient writers (such as Ctesias), deny this genealogy, and the whole of Cyrus' life is encrusted with legend. Cyrus overthrew Astyages, king of the Medes, sometime between 559 B.C. and 549 B.C. He entered Ecbatana and, taking over the Median kingdom, began to build a great empire after the Assyrian model. Cyrus' objectives were to gain power over the Mediterranean coast, secure Asia Minor, and civilize the east. Croesus of Lydia, Nabonidus of Babylonia, and Amasis II of Egypt, joined by Sparta, tried to build a strong alliance against him, but to no avail. He defeated and captured Croesus (546 B.C.), and Lydia became a satrapy under the Persian government. The Chaldaean empire of Babylonia fell to Cyrus in 538 B.C. He did not conquer Egypt, but he prepared the way for later Persian victories there. Cyrus demanded the surrender of the Greek cities that had been under Lydia, and they also became satrapies of Persia. Cyrus was much admired by the Jews, whom he favored, placing them in power in Palestine. His motive was probably to create a buffer state between Persia and Egypt, but the result was a rehabilitation of Israel. Cyrus was admired as a liberator rather than a conqueror, because he respected the customs and religions of each part of his vast empire. The exact limits of Cyrus' eastern conquests are not known, but it is possible that they reached as far as the Peshawar region. He used Susa, Ecbatana, and Babylon as his capitals but was buried at Pasargadae, where he had built a splendid palace. At his death his son Cambyses succeeded him, despite the ambitions of another son, Smerdis.

Life is like....

Life is like a great bike race, the goal of which is to
live one's own Personal Destiny. At the starting line, we
are all together, sharing camaraderie and enthusiasm. But,
as the race develops, the initial joy gives way to
challenges: exhaustion, monotony, doubts as to one's
ability. We notice that some friends refuse to accept the
challenges -- they are still in the race, but only because
they cannot stop in the middle of a road. There are many of
them. They ride along with the support car, talk among
themselves and complete the task. We find ourselves
outdistancing them; and then
we have to confront solitude, the surprises around
unfamiliar curves, problems with the bicycle. We wind up
asking ourselves if the effort is worth it. Yes, it is
worth it. Don't give up.

from Maktub by Paulo Coelho

Four Candles
A boy got back from school to see his candles. He had four candles, four valuable candles to preserve them. As he arrived at home headed to the firs room that first candle was placed. But, he was shocked of what he saw. The candle was dead. That candle was the candle of peace. He said "Why? You must be alive forever". The candle responded "No, nobody can give me a long lasting life. Sometimes human beings forget me, and nobody cares about me". The boy was down and went to second room. And when he opened the door he saw the candle of faith was dead too. Wow, what on earth it happened. The boy said "Why are you off? Does it mean a world without believe? Without trust? The candle said "Yes, sometimes a gentle wind can take me to death. And nothing happened". The boy was about to cry that was sad but true. The boy ran to third room, and when he opened the door he saw the same thing. At this moment he cried out of sadness. "Why? You are love. I can't imagine a world without love. The candle responded "I am not able to live anymore. Men forget me easily. So, the fourth room was the only one. And when the boy got into, saw fortunately this candle was alive. The candle said "I am the hope. I was waiting for you. What are you sad? What are you crying?" And the boy told the story. The candle thought a few minutes, then said "Alright there is nothing to worry about. You can pick me up and light on the Peace, Faith and Love.
I regard your hope candle be alive for ever.
The frog was swimming till they reached the middle of pool, suddenly he felt pain on his back. Yes, the scorpion had stung him!!! The frog just screamed and asks "WHYYYYYY? Now, we both will die". The scorpion answered, "It doesn't matter. The important thing is that I have to kill a frog, this is my nature". And they both drowned.

What do you think? Look how many scorpions are living around us that this is their nature to get our down. This is bullshit.
