THE LITTLE PRINCE

It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.

Voici mon secret. Il est très simple: on ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur. L'essentiel est invisible por le yeux.

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944 ) - in full Antoine Marie Roger de Saint-Exupéry.

French aviator and writer, real life hero who looked at adventure and danger with poet's eyes , sometimes from the viewpoint of a child. His most famous work is the Little Prince (1943) which he also illustrated.

During World War II he served as a pilot. He was shot down on a mission over France in 1944.

                THE NAME OF THE ROSE

The author of this amazing novel is Umberto Eco. He is an Italian medievalist, philosopher and novelist. He is a Master in Semiotics,Linguistics, Aesthetics and Morality. He has been awarded over thirty Honorary Doctorates. He was born on January 5,1932 in Alessandria in the region of Piedmont.

This book is not easy or straight foward read.It has many passages in untranslated Latin. But if you are persistent you can learn a lot from this exiciting and shocking story. It blends erudition and entertainment.

I will give you an advice, first read the book and then see the film. But if you don't like reading,ok, watch it, but please don't miss it !!!

                  GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING

The author of this touching and interesting book is Tracy Chevalier.

This is a work of fiction but full of emotional feelings. I like to think that the story could have been real and Griet did exist.I love this novel ! Also the film is worth watching it.

If you are interested in this book , please check this site out : www.tchevalier.com You will find useful information, especially about the Dutch painter Johannes (Jan) Vermeer.

                  THE ALCHEMIST

Paulo Coelho was born in 1947 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He wrote The Alchemist in 1987. This book became a best seller in many countries of the world, it has been translated into most languages, included Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Jewish, etc. So language won't be a problem for finding this book and reading it.

It is a highly symbolic book, a metaphor of life.

once about a time

Once upon a time, those were the words we heard has children and now as adults and teens we now know those were fairy tells to put us to sleep, to comfort us in difficult times, and now we use those to comfort the latest generation that has arrived. To tell them all will be better again, but I have to wonder will the world ever be the same again, Will the fighting ever stop? I know that the things were meant to happen but why this generation, Why that day, Why those people? Why did those people that started it choice that day those planes to do that horrible thing? Why did they want to use innocent people to cause that much pain and suffering? Has I sit here and think could that have been the being of the end? Could that have been the one thing we needed to have happen before we turn on each other? Now that that has happen could it only be a matter of time before the world has we know it has changed, and if it did would it be for the better or worse? Could the world of our childhood the “once upon a time” be over? What will future generations be missing? They have already lost so much of what we have grow-up with they will never see the rainforest of old and yet we continue to destroy things that future generations could see and marvel over. How could the people of this earth do that to the upcoming children? Could, if we wanted to replant and let the rainforest grow so that they would be able to marvel at them? I just wonder if it’s really over or have we just started?

rrr ok I think this is what you meant not sure tho

Occasionally you meet that someone. That someone that you are meant to be with, but how do you really knows by feels or do you slowly realize that you are meant to be with that person? What if that person does not realize it do you just follow the person you feel hoping and praying that the person will realize? What if you both realize it and both are afraid to make the first move? Should you make the first move, make the leap of faith and hope that the person feels the same? Should you stay where you are waiting for him to realize it? Once in a while you meet that someone but what if you’re both are afraid to make that first move…

Ok dear Red Hot , use of"cuidese" was cleared up.But here is the same as using "usted". Ok, but you explained it very well and thanks for it. Smile

Ohh Fito Paez, long time I don't listen to Argentinian Rock. I listened to the song you mentioned and I payed attention to the lyrics. He writes his songs beautifully, I always admired that .But ...a broken up relationship makes me feel down ...Red Hot, me gusta estar al lado del camino/fumando el humo mientras todo pasa/me gusta abrir los ojos y estar vivo/...this song is a whole hymn for me, I listen in this song exactly what I would like to shout out ...

Any song to suggest for this Christmas ? So we can all sing it along ?

jojojojojo Bigmama, I didn´t mean to make you feel like an older person.... first of all, you aren´t, and I have told you, you look extremely young......

second, I use "cuidese" a lot because here in Venezuela, when you use that with someone young, it means that you care a lot about that person, and besides that, that you respect him/her a lot, no matter the age ;)

well, that´s it, take care, ok? =D

(by the way, check out "Los Restos de nuestro Amor" from Fito Paez.... God, I am almost crying!!! what a soulfull song!!!)

Wow, honestcat, nice to hear from you!! You really like good reading and this is great. I read "The French Lieutenant's Woman" and saw the film. As I always say, the book is usually better than the film, but it is understandable, we talk about two different languages (written and audiovisual).Victorian England and a forbidden love...perfectly performed by Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons (both captivating) Thank you very much for sharing your favourites. Keep in touch please, ok ? Smile

Hi Bigmama! It’s me again. Thank you, thank you very much for your milk. You are really the kindest and the Biggest Mama on this forum (Honestly you are the first person i asked for). I’ll with pleasure share with you my favorites books.

During the latest three months my memory has been returning again and again to the book by John Fowlse called “The Collector” If to say that it was impressed me that is to say nothing It really overwhelmed me The author described the main hero so clearly, that i felt the fully desperate position of the victim. The second book by the same author, I chose, was the book called “Mantissa”.It’s very tremendous calembour I think, good food for turned upside dawn brain. Maybe you have read these books. I’ll be happy if you share with me you opinion Now i'm reading the third Fowlse's book "The French Lieutenant's Woman" and happy that other books by this author leave in my list not reading by me. The winter here so long,

With large respect, Honestcat.

Hi bigmama! I have soo many favourite books that sometimes it is really difficult do choose only one! But my last book which has made a really big impression on my is "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It is amazing, mysterious, full of passion and very lyric! I've bought it at once and I'm sure I will be back to it many times!

Daniel was ten when he was taken into a cemetery and told he was allowed to save one soul. His father owned a bookstore packed full of contemporary titles of his 1940's Barcelona, but Daniel's father's real love was the appropriately named "Cemetery of Forgotten Books," a guarded vault filled with a labyrinth of shelves, covered, top to bottom, with volumes wasting away in obscurity. Daniel is told to take one book, read it, and protect its story for the rest of his life.

Have you read this book????? :) take care!! I'm sure you would like it!!
