The MetaBrain Growth Process is the prototype for a whole new framework from which to approach to mind uploading.
Essentially, this new framework involves the *growth* of synaptic circuits into an alternative substrate (advanced supercomputer) and a *functionality shift* such that the new networks become crucial to the person and the biological substrate is rendered a redundant and expendable network of the entire brain system.
This approach opens the possibility for non-fatal uploading processes that are not mere replication of structure, but actual extension of mind onto an alternative substrate.
This requires a lot of explanation. Consider attending TrasVision 2004 in Toronto to see a presentation on this topic and many other compelling subjects.
