“"A good friend will come bail you out of jail, but a true friend will be sitting next to you saying...'Damn, that was fun!'"”

Nothing to do with bail and jail here. But rather with authoritative attitude vs accepting a friend in all his/her "attire" and enjoying it.

Handwriter, thanks for the proverbs and wisdom that is absolutely right about friendship. Being together makes it awesome even though  your friend sooner or later  leaves or... maybe not. :) Let's keep the fingers crossed it's not going to happen and wish everyone a good and sincere and elevating friend.

I also like this one.

“"A good friend will come bail you out of jail, but a true friend will be sitting next to you saying...'Damn, that was fun!'"”

Ola, as always, I enjoy your commentaries -- they help think and to look closer at my way of thinking.  Thank you so much.  :)

You may be comparing a companion to a friend.

Proverbs 18:24

A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Don't get me wrong. I like a good company. But it comes and it goes. New acquaintances, bitter or sweet. It's all good. Some aquaintances might grow into friends, which is a blessing. It all comes naturally. Shouldn't be forced.

I like though the story by Maugham "The Three Fat Women of Antibes". See they were friends and they could hardly believe that their frienship could be destroyed by someone who is more cheerful, lighthearted, more beautiful, luckier than they're. And it was for some time when they turned spiteful against each other but when the lucky and beautiful object of their indignation was gone, they became nice and happy again. They didn't want anyone but only their company in which they were so blissfully happy. I don't see this as friendship. It's all subjective though. :) Imho

Really!? You would prefer a life free of pain or of any challenges than living your life with the sweetness and comfort of having a friend?

One thing of English that I yet to master is spelling (among other things).  !Hijole!  But one day I am sure to do it -- I mean, with the help of patient friends. -- or a good Spell Check!  jeje
