How to get things off your mind
List in order the things that are priority in life, whether it be general or
personal.
For example, someone's list might be
1.family
2.career
3.relationship
4.knowledge
5.making a difference in the world
6.travel
Etc etc
Then look at the top of your list and think about the various aspects that
are positive and negative and areas which can be improved.
For example, family- maybe I could help them more, I work in the restaurant
to help parents a lot, I go round to fix their stuff would be positive. I
don’t really spend quality time with them, don’t go out to eat together or
talk about things.
So then you would arrange something to fix it, maybe get the whole family
our for a meal and do the organizing.
Then you process the list and set yourselves targets, some targets are long
term, such as career, maybe get 2 years in a professional job behind you,
maybe even look for a career change. You need to set yourselves some
targets, here is an example of what ones list may look like.
1. fix CV and search for job
2. see my grandma next week
3. save at least £200 a month into a savings account
4. go to the cinema at least once a month for some fun activity
5. Read a book about human psychology
6. help out in charity shop every Sunday
7. save up £100 a month for Canada trip
8. go speed dating
9. go gym once a week
10. eat healthy 5 days out of 7
11. quit smoking
12. monitor bills more carefully
13. only spent £200 on luxuries when you have saved £200 for savings
Then you concentrate on hitting these targets and you tick them off once you
have completed them. Its amazing how each target evolves over time and the
list changes as you add to it and rewrite it.
A new list maybe
1. Aim to become partner in my company
2. arrange family reunion
3. transfer £5000 into high interest account
4. Plan round the world trip
5. attend conference in LA
6. help open new charity shop
Etc etc
This method will help in focusing your life and organizing it. Most people
get stuck in routine and find themselves lost or depressed as they feel no
direction. The key to this is to analyze life to help make tomorrow and the
future better. You will have a more fulfilling life when you set realistic
targets and climb one by one. The first list will never be amazing and in
fact probably not that interesting, but over time it will evolve to be
something amazing and you can see how far you have come. Time spent on it could be used in progressing in life.
The most important thing is to be conscious of what you prioritize, don’t
forget to prioritize the fun things in life. If you love films, organize a
film outing, if you love to paint, paint some pictures. In life you have the
freedom of choice, don’t sit around and let it go to waste.
