Regardless we admit or not, we desire much more than what we need. The desire can give us courage and can drive us evil without control.

Too much color blinds the eye,

Too much tone deafens the ear,

Too much taste dulls the palate,

Too much play maddens the mind,

Too much desire tears the heart.

I heard a story that a little boy answered he would like to be a president when he was asked what he wants to do in the future. That boy became the president. He got what he desired.  I have a friend, he planed to go to Yale after he married in China. He did become a Ph.D of Yale University, he got what he planned. These are not conflict with Taoism as of "Too Much".
