The German newspaper ‘Suedwestpresse’ says that to lower the number of dead tourists – and also native guides – Nepal now has a new law that makes it harder to be allowed to climb Mount Everest. You now need to fulfill certain physical criteria, prove that you are an experienced mountaineer and even pay a higher amount of money to be allowed to climb.

‘Tagesschau’ says that there currently are too many tourists wanting to climb Mount Everest. This means that people are told to wait a little longer before they may climb all the way down again. This unexpectedly long exposure already put some tourists in great danger.

‘Arte’ a Franco-German TV-channel now broadcasted a documentary movie called ‘Nepal – The Return of the Snow Children’ (translated from German into English). Snowland Ranag Light of Education School is a boarding school in Kathmandu lead by a Buddhist monk and famous for most students coming from very poor farming families who live in the mountains many miles away. Poor as they are they usually send their children as young as possible to school which would be the age of four years and they don’t have the money to see them ever again during the 12 years the children spend at the boarding school. Both travelling from the mountains to Kathmandu and doing so vise versa would be too much for the parents to afford. Luckily there is a benefactor who wishes to remain anonymous. He donates enough money to this school so that each year the students graduating from Snowland Ranag Light of Education School can return to see their families for three months after graduation. He pays their trip as well as the money families will need to provide them with food for three months. He even dons money so that those students who wish to do so may return to Kathmandu by the end of these three months.

>The German newspaper “Zeit” says that when a Bangladeshi plane crashed in Nepal some days ago at least 49 passengers died. Needless to say; most of them were Bangladeshi and Nepalese.
>The German journalist Diana Jervis now published an article about the most dangerous airports in the world…and one of them was located to Lukla in Nepal. If you ever wish to see Mount Everest however, you have no choice, but to head for this airport. The 527 meter short runway is one of the shortest in the world, making landing there extremely risky. Plus there is a lot of snow and ice and a lot of sharp rocks that are hard for the pilot not to hit.
