I reckon there are at least four different words based on the word limit – limit, limits, limitation and limitations. Both limit and limitation have something to do with the control of the amount of something; but usually limit describes something that is more specific – like a speed limit, or the time limit allowed for a test. The word limit can be used as a verb and as a noun.

Limitation is usually a noun, and is the act or something that controls the size or the limiting of power – The new constitution placed further limitations on the powers of the executive, and gave more powers to parliament.
