Is Jesus God?
Yemen |
Have you ever met a man with such personal magnetism that he is always the center of attention? Possibly his personality or intelligence- Eyewitnesses tell us that Jesus was a man who grew physically, ate, slept, felt pain, and eventually died (as claimed by some people). Their written accounts also describe Jesus as walking on water, calming storms, healing the blind and lame, and even raising the dead. Furthermore, they tell us that Jesus appeared alive to them after they watched him "die" on the cross. Jesus’ greatness was obvious to all those who saw and heard him. But, whereas most great people simply fade into history books, Jesus of Nazareth is still the focus of numerous books and media controversy. According to Jesus, you and I are special, part of God’s great plan for us, with him as the carrier of God's message. These and other "claims" like them stunned everyone who heard them uttered; that caused him to be viewed as a threat by both the Roman authorities and the Jewish hierarchy. Although he was an "outsider" with no credentials or political power base, within three years, Jesus changed the world for the next 20 centuries. Although some have wondered if Jesus really existed, even most non-Christian scholars acknowledge him as a real person. The great non-Christian historian, H. G. Wells, speaks ranked Jesus as the most influential person ever. Other great leaders have left an impact- To come to conclusion, Scholars' research have indicated that Jesus Christ is a person. However, the research did not view Jesus as he is supposed to be viewed. I will provide the Islamic view about Jesus Christ as follows: Jesus is human. - Jesus is not God. - Jesus' miracles that he raises the dead and healing the blind and lame are true and have happened, but that doesn't make him God. As a messenger of God, he was supported by God and so God has "provided" him with miracles so people can believe he was send by God himself. - Jesus has never claimed to be God. People might have either misunderstood or falsified his sayings.
No offense intended, I am just providing you with the Islamic perspective on Jesus Christ as a prophet and a messenger of God. P.S. The topic is taken from a research post and edited in a way as to delete anything offensive towards Jesus.

Some people might have misunderstood the aim of the topic. I am Muslim, so you all know. I am Muslim and I am not saying that Jesus is God. I am asking questions as to get proof to the claims that sa Jesus is God. I do not believe he is God! Darn! You need to read and then Judge. HAVE YOU EVEN READ THE SUBJECT? I work towards letting people know that Jesus is not God, WITH PROOFS not just claims. Please, do not accuse nor Judge. Allah is the only one who has the right to judge me. Thanks for the insults, that shows a lot about your personality. HAVE I EVER SAID THAT JESUS IS GOD? I EVEN SAID "IN THE TOPIC" THAT HE IS NOT GOD. CLOSED AND SMALL MINDED PEOPLE MAKE IT HARD TO OTHERS TO CONVEY THE TRUTH. |

I thank you for explaining the point of view of a Muslim, but now please let me explain to you why Christians think differently about this subject. I know that according to the Old Testament everyone who obeys and fulfills the will of God is defined as a son or daughter of God and that thus some non-Christians say that this is the only reason why they called Jesus Christ the son of God. However if this title of his was an alusion to this part of the Old Testament, wouldn't they rather have described him only as a son of God? I know someone who doesn't believe in the Christian theology may say that these were just misinterpretations of the authors and actually I don't really intend to make you believe in this, since I doubt that I would succeed trying to convince a strict Jew or Muslim of the things a Christian believes in, but I just try to make you understand why we think so. I'm sorry if I offended any non-Christian by posting this. I didn't mean to. Thanks for reading. |

- Is Jesus a son of God or God himself ! Both. He is part of the trinity. One God in 3 persons. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. - Can God be three things, four or even thousands! He is as I stated in the first question. No he can not be more. - Does God grow, suffer, die ! God sent His Son to be in human form where he did grow, suffer, and die. Just as David foresaw in the old testament and prophesied when he said, "A pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands nad my feet. All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment." ...Jesus is no longer in human form. Just as he was not before he came. - Why one God, not thousands! You may as well ask why you are one person and not thousands. There is one God because there is one God. - Does God create other Gods ! No. He SENT his Son. - Do we need several Gods! No.
Mohammed certainly believed Jesus to be God. When he wrote the koran, he said an unseen being was telling him what to write and when he refused, the being would choke him. This happened over and over. He went home to his wife who also claimed Christianity. She was actually translating the Bible into another language. He had been worried he was possessed and told his wife he finally believed he had become so. Mohammed believed Jesus was God but because of one verse that refers to him as "messenger", some have tried to say he thought differently…which is ridiculous. His wife said maybe it was God. So very much of what he wrote in the koran he just took from the Bible. Just repeated a lot of it. I really don't think the average muslim know the koran very well. Nor do they know history. Nor do they accept that Mohammed claimed Christianity. They just blindly follow a book written several hundred years later by a man who was terrified he had been possessed by a demon and it would choke him to force him to write things. Anyone is welcome to say I am lying, but please do your research and you'll see that I am not. Another man also wrote a book that he said was more important than the Bible but attempted to include it as the Muslims do. That is where the religion Mormonism comes from. But not matter how many people make new books and try to include the Bible…there is only one Bible. And no amount of insanity or blind dedication without reason or logic is going to change that. Have a good day. |

Obviously you are not understanding about the death of Jesus or the trinity. And I never said it can't be explained. No there were not then two…he went into hell, and was resurrected and ascended to God. If this did not happen, Christianity would not exist. And you ask why he would die?? Do you know ANYTHING about Christianity? Anything at All?? Please do not question Christian things if you don't have even the most basic understanding of it. Even children could have told you this. Please read or study before you attempt debate. It seems no one has ever said anything about what Christianity is to you. Jesus is the son of God sent to the world to pay for it's sins. We all deserve to burn in hell, but Jesus lived a perfect life with no sin. Our sins had to be paid for, so he went in our place. Anyone who accepts Jesus sacrifice of payment for sins will not be sentenced to hell. They will also be fellow heirs of Jesus, and this is why you will enter Heaven. And no, I don't think a bunch of virgins is a reward. That is very obviously something a man made up. Jesus came as savior to the world to any who would believe in Him. The Old Testament said that when the savior comes, the Jews will reject him (at first). This is why they do not accept him as savior but believe the messiah is still coming. Jesus died for us…a gift from God. The amazing gift of grace! Saying, "I don't know what to tell you. You're wrong" is not an answer, yet you still tried to argue. And with all due respect…I don't care what "many americans" do or don't do. I am not a normal American. At all. When the disciple Thomas saw Jesus resurrected after his death, he said, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus also confirmed his identity as God to his disciples and asked that they not tell. Yet Muslims keep saying he is prophet. Listen to me everyone…Jesus is either God, or he was a liar. Saying he is a prophet would be heresy to your religion because of the things he said. He said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father, but by me." He said many things, but people hear and refuse to listen. Do you not believe that God can be in Spirit and in body? Then already you believe in two. Why is 3 so much more hard to grasp? Why does God have to be just like man He is not. Jesus is God. I don't wish to argue this further because I know from seeing these forums that no one will listen with an open mind, but seek only to find a way to be right..even when they don't understand what they say (I do not mean everyone is like this, but the vast majority are). And the arguments are always very very weak…even when there are many words. But people never cease to disagree because they do not WANT to agree…no matter what they hear. They believe they are right and NOTHING will change their mind. They only seek to find someone to tell them they are right. But please forgive me if I sound rude. I don't mean to be and I love Muslims just as I love Christians or anyone else. I appreciate the kindness you give to me, even in arguing. I also admire your zeal. I simply wish you would consider Jesus. It seems pointless to debate here so I will stop. But my comments about the origin of Islam is historically accurate. God bless. |

Bogle pretty much explained it the way I would have explained it to you. However I would have added that not even all Christians think of Jesus in the same way. Even some Christians believe he was just a prophet, some say he was the son of God, while others believe in trinity, i.e. that God, the Holy Ghost and Jesus are one and the same. This doesn't mean that the people who believe in trinity believe in three Gods, but they believe in one God who already appeared to us in three different forms. I know non-Christians who criticize that parts like these of our religion aren't very logical, but was there ever any religion that only followed logical principles? Does it make sense when a Buddhist thinks of cows as holy creatures, although they don't even have half of the intelligence a human has? Did it make sense when the Aztecs, Inkas etc. killed people to please their gods, hoping they then would give them better weather or something. They did so for hundreds of years and they really hoped that in exchange their gods would help them, although they still often had some bad harvest. And finally: Does it make sense to you that the first human beings listened to a speaking snake, although God himself told them they would die if they ate from this tree? I just posted the latter example, because it's something all three world religions believe in! No! Religion can't be explained only logically or mathematically. It's an evidence of a strong believe and trust in someone who is superior than us ordinary human beings, i.e. God. This superiority of God just includes that we may not be able to understand everything about him completely. |

Please feel free to ask me any precise answer and I'll try to answer you. By the way this isn't only limitted to Christianity, but also to other religions and cultural things. Since I'm just interested in these things, I think I'd be able to answer. |
