One of my favourite pieces is the Song Cycle "Four Shakespeare Songs" composed by Erich Korngold (1897-1957) sung by my favourite singer Anne Sofie von Otter (Mezzo Soprano) from Sweden:

I've added Shakespeare's lyrics, too.

Enjoy listening and reading! Smile

Willow, Willow (Desdemona’s Song)

DesdemonaVerse 1
The poor soul sat sighing by a sycamore tree,
Sing all a green willow;
Her hand on her bosom, her head on her knee,
Sing willow, willow, willow

Verse 2
The fresh streams ran by her, and mumur’d
her moans
"
Her salt tears fell from her, & soften’d the stones;
"
Chorus
Sing all a green willow must be my garland.
Let nobody blame him; his scorn I approve,
I call’d my love false love; but what said he then?  If I If I If I court moe [more] women,
you'll couch with moe [more] men.  {PAUSE}

Othello and DesdemonaCoda
Sing willow, willow, willow {my add.}
Sing willow, willow, willow
Sing willow, willow, willow
Sing willow, willow, willow.

(4.3. 42-63)

Under the greenwood tree
Under the greenwood tree
Who loves to lie with me,
And turn his merry note
Unto the sweet bird's throat,
Come hither, come hither, come hither:
Here shall he see
No enemy
But winter and rough weather.

Who doth ambition shun,
And loves to live i' the sun,
Seeking the food he eats,
And pleas'd with what he gets,
Come hither, come hither, come hither:
Here shall he see
No enemy
But winter and rough weathe

Blow, blow, thou winter wind

Blow, blow, thou winter wind,
Thou art not so unkind
As man's ingratitude;
Thy tooth is not so keen
Because thou art not seen,
Although thy breath be rude.
Heigh-ho! sing heigh-ho! unto the green holly:
Most friendship is feigning, most loving mere folly:
Then, heigh-ho! the holly!
This life is most jolly.

Freeze, freeze, thou bitter sky,
Thou dost not bite so nigh
As benefits forgot:
Though thou the waters warp,
Thy sting is not so sharp
As friend remember'd not.
Heigh-ho! sing heigh-ho! unto the green holly:
Most friendship is feigning, most loving mere folly:
Then, heigh-ho! the holly!
This life is most jolly.

When birds do sing

It was a lover and his lass,
With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonino,
That o'er the green corn-field did pass,
In the spring time, the only pretty ring time,
When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding;
Sweet lovers love the spring.

Between the acres of the rye,
With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonino,
These pretty country folks would lie,
In the spring time, the only pretty ring time,
When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding;
Sweet lovers love the spring.

This carol they began that hour,
With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonino,
How that life was but a flower
In the spring time, the only pretty ring time,
When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding;
Sweet lovers love the spring.

And, therefore, take the present time
With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonino,
For love is crown & graved with the prime
In the spring time, the only pretty ring time,
When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding;
Sweet lovers love the spring.

Suffiana Kalam is one of many types of classical musics that are sung in India and Pakistan. Shah Aeniat and Baba Bulleh Shah were founders of this type of classical music. In present times Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was the master of this and he took this form of music to the world stag. I am very found of Suffiana Kalam.
