what does it mean?

about Italian flag

a common interpretation is that the green represents the country's plains and the hills, white, the snow-capped Alps and red, blood spilt in the Wars of Italian Independence.

A more religious interpretation is that the green represents hope, the white represents faith and the red represents charity

Blue is peace, unity and noble ideas. While Red stands for blood, courage and bravery. White stands for peace and purity. The Sun represents the dawning of the new era of self determination, while the 8 rays of it stands for the first 8 provinces that revolted againts Spain. 

Lastly, the 3 stars represents the 3 main geographic areas of the Philippines namely, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
