Maybe it was? Ataturk certainly did a great job. Convincing Muslims to separate religion from state affairs isn’t an easy one. But I see major flaws with the version of secularism Turkey preaches.
The Alevi minority in Turkey use cem houses as place of reverence. But as they are Muslims, the only recognized houses of worship are the mosques. The Turkish Supreme court seems to have given a ruling as per the constitution

I see some connection of this case with the PPC (Pakistan Penal Code) and associated ruling of Pakistani courts about prohibiting the Ahmadiyya community (a heretic Muslim sect) from calling their places of worship as Masjid. But Pakistan is an Islamic republic, Turkey is supposed to be secular.
