Can you provide the rest of the sentence for the first example?

For the second, to blast means to play music very loud.

Best,

Amy

This example:

The old-fashioned TV had knobs on it to change the channel instead of a remote.

Knobs are like round buttons that you turn to turn something on or off, or change the volume or channel, etc. A doorknob is what you use to open the door. On older TVs, you had to get up and use a knob, rather than using a remote.

Does that help?

Best,

Amy
