Should there be a pause before the conjunction ‘when’ do you think?

As I have stated before, the placement of pauses really depends on the individual speaker. In general, though, native speakers do not pause between the subject and verb in a clause.


For instance, take your example sentence, “Bob Fosse was in his early thirties, a small, intense man who had been a dancer and actor in several Hollywood movies.”



In this case, you can assume that you will not pause between the relative pronoun (“who”) and its corresponding verb. How much of a pause (if any) you use before the word “who” is your choice.


Regarding the two above sentences with the word “when,” I would not use a noticeable pause in either sentence.
