Steph: Hey. I was thinking about seeing The Green Mile. What do you think of that movie?
Cindy: Oh. It was good, but it was really deep.
Steph: Deep? What do you mean by that?
Cindy: It made you think about things in a way you wouldn’t, normally.
Steph: Really?
Cindy: Yeah.
Steph: What was it about?
Cindy: Oh. It was about this guy who was on death row. And he was wrongly convicted. He didn’t do it. But he was still on death row. And all these other inmates came through. And, it was, it was a tough movie to watch.
Steph: Oh my gosh. Did he get off in the end?
Cindy: No.
Steph: No? Did he die?
Cindy: Yes.
Steph: Oh no. That’s awful! And he was innocent?
Cindy: Yeah.
Steph: Oh my gosh. I dunno. It sounds like a downer.
Cindy: Ya know, it could be. But it was really a good movie. I would recommend seeing it.
Steph: Cool. OK. Well, maybe I will then.
Cindy: OK.
Steph: All right.

Yes, that movie was definitely worth seeing! Sometimes, even when a movie is a downer, it helps you look at life differently. Sometimes a downer movie can help you lift your spirits and make you feel hope or luck or other emotions. This movie is definitely what we would call a ‘drama’. That means, it’s not a comedy or an action film. It is a movie with heavy emotions. What kinds of movies do you prefer?
