So, we all like rock and roll, but what’s a rock and roller supposed to do to make money? Everyone knows that it is pretty competitive to make it in the music world.
Today’s lesson is about a movie called School of Rock. This movie is about a slacker musician who poses as a teacher so he can earn some money.

Derek

Steph

Derek: Hey, have you ever seen that movie, School of Rock?

Steph: Yeah, I have, as a matter of fact.

Derek: Wasn’t it a funny movie?

Steph: It was pretty funny. Especially, um, who was the character played by Jack Black? He was the main character and how he was such a slacker.

Derek: Yeah. I don’t remember his name. But anyway, it was a pretty interesting concept, as a teacher teaching the kids rock and roll.

Steph: I know. The funniest part was that the kids were, ya know, great musicians. They were classically trained, but they couldn’t let loose and play the rock.

Derek: Exactly. It seems to be what a lot of schools teach.

Steph: The classical music?

Derek: The classical music.

Steph: It’s true. They teach kids how to read notes but they don’t really teach them how to feel what they are playing.

Derek: Yeah.

Steph: Yeah. I thought it was pretty effective though. And, ya know, ever since that movie came out, there have been schools of rock starting in all the major cities in America.

Derek: Really?

Steph: Mmmhmmm. It’s true.

Derek: That’s pretty cool.

Steph: Yeah. I know. It’s crazy.

This movie was really entertaining! It made me laugh so hard when I saw it. The cool thing is that the main character, played by Jack Black, transforms from a loser into a great teacher.
He really reaches out to the kids and to his stuffy co-workers and the story ends quite happily.
It’s a real feel-good kind of movie. Can you think of any more feel-good movies?
