Dialog

Yeah Yeah Yeahs formed in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, when Karen O and Nick Zinner met at a New York bar. They wrote some acoustic folk songs together before realizing that they should be playing real rock & roll instead of slow and soft ballads. They called Karen’s old Ohio college pal Brian Chase to bring some thunderous beats to the group. They then recorded their debut EP and started performing raucous live shows around the city.
A buzz quickly formed around Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the band started touring the U.S. and Europe. Their shows were so exciting and out of control that people couldn’t resist loving them. So, when the band finally released their first full album, Fever to Tell, it was an instant smash.
Fever to Tell is packed with great songs. “Miles Away” is one of the best. Check out some of the lyrics:
As the cars go by under the sun like an enemy
You wonder
As a spider comes and looks at you like an enemy
You wonder
Yeah miles, miles away
She’s hurting people in a better world
Miles, miles away
Dressed again under the water
and you’re more beautiful than ever
Looking in the car rear view mirror

One of my friends who lives on the East Coast has been telling me about Yeah Yeah Yeahs for about two years, but I only recently started listening to their album. It’s awesome! I love it. It’s so much different than the other music I listen to. I’m not even sure that I can compare it to anything.
I haven’t seen Yeah Yeah Yeahs live yet, but if they ever come to Portland, I’ll definitely go to the show. Their energy and general craziness is supposed to be super fun to be a part of.
Rock on,
Migs
