Hey! What’s up? How have you been?
I haven’t written a column like this in a while, but it seems like the right time for a change. We’ve been having conversations about music for a few months, and I’ve been letting other people tell you what they think about music. But this week is different.
I want to tell you about my favorite song of the summer.

Dialog

1. Study - Read the dialog again to see how the vocab words are used.

“Let Me Blow Ya Mind”
Before I tell you about the song, let me introduce three people: Eve, Gwen and Dr. Dre.
Eve is a female rapper from Philadelphia. Her latest album, Scorpion is one of the best hip-hop albums of the year.
Gwen Stefani is the lead singer of the group No Doubt. She’s a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice.
Dr. Dre is one of the most famous rappers and producers of all time. He’s worked with most of the best rappers in the music business, including Ice Cube, Snoop Dog, Tupac Shakur, and Eminem.
All three of these amazing artists came together to create the song, “Let Me Blow Ya Mind.” Eve raps, Gwen sings and Dre produces.
It’s a great song because it’s got attitude. Eve is telling the world that she’s the best rapper in the world, and she doesn’t care if anyone thinks differently. She says:
“Clowns I spot ‘em and I can’t stop laughin’
Easy come, easy go, E-V gon’ be lastin’
Jealousy, let it go, results could be tragic”
Then, Gwen sings:
“It took awhile to get me here
And I’m gonna take my time
Don’t fight that good (stuff) in your ear
Now let me blow ya mind
The two of them are an incredible pair. Both are young, beautiful, talented and rich. They can do anything they want – and they know it.

Discussion

A good summer song is different from songs I listen to during the rest of the year. A great summer song has to be fun, because summer is the time for parties, BBQ’s and cruising. “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” is a classic summer song, because it’s got a great beat and it’s easy to sing along to.
Have you heard “Let Me Blow Ya Mind?” Do you like it? Do you have any favorite summer songs? Come to the “Music Mix” Message Board and let us know!
Have a great week.
Take it easy,
Migs
