The holiday season is the time for gift-giving. Music always makes a great gift, so I’m going to continue reviewing the best music of 2001. Hopefully, my reviews will help you choose great music for your friends and family!
This week I want to talk about two albums: Amnesiac by Radiohead and Is This It by the Strokes.
Dialog
1. Listen and Read - Listen to the audio and read the dialog at the same time.
2. Study - Read the dialog again to see how the vocab words are used.
Amnesiac is the fifth album by the world famous British rock group Radiohead. It’s a beautiful collection of songs, but it’s also a bit disturbing.
Singer Thom Yorke expresses his feelings of pain, anger and isolation in all of his songs. Each one is emotional and intense. For some people, all of that emotion makes the music difficult to listen to, but for me it makes it more enjoyable.
Radiohead is nothing like other popular bands and Amnesiac is nothing like other popular albums. If you’re in the mood for something totally different, you should check it out!

The Strokes are a new group from New York City. Is This It is their first album – and it’s an amazing debut. The songs on Is This It are filled with raw energy and excitement. You can tell that they love to play rock & roll.
My favorite song on the album is called “Hard to Explain.” The lyrics express singer Julian Casablancas’ confusion about life:
I miss the last bus, I take the next train
I try, but you see it’s hard to explain
I say the right things
I act the wrong way
I like it right here, but I cannot stay
Is This It* is truly a musical thrill! You should check it out.

Like I mentioned before, music is a great gift. I am going to give both of these CD’s to my mom this year. I hope she likes them!
