Here in Portland, as you probably know, there is a lot of creativity running around. We have artists, filmmakers and lots of musicians. Sometimes it’s hard to decide who to go see play because there are so many great bands.
What do you do with a city full of talented musicians? Check out Portland’s response.

Sara

Steph: Hey Sara, have you ever heard of PDXPOP Now[/def]?

Sara: No. What’s that?

Steph: Well, it’s this local music festival that started last year. And all these local musicians get together and they put on this 3-day music festival.

Sara: Wow! That sounds really cool. What kind of, is it all pop music then?

Steph: Yeah, they’re trying to get a little bit of hip-hop and, like, harder rock music too, but in general it’s pop music.

Sara: Wow. That’s sounds like fun. Where do they do it?

Steph: They do it at this venue, um, in SE Portland. And it’s all-ages. And it’s free.

Sara: Oh. It’s free?

Steph: Yeah. Everyone’s volunteering their time and this year they’re making a DVD which is really cool.

Sara: Wow. That’s great.

Steph: Yeah. And they have, like a compilation at the end of it that you can buy. So, that’s super cool.

Sara: How many bands do you think will be playing?

Steph: Oh my gosh. Probably like 40 or 50.

Sara: Wow. Are they from all over the country?

Steph: They’re actually just local bands. They’re all Portland bands.

Sara: Wow. I had no idea there were that many bands in Portland.

Steph: There are. And more

Sara: Huh. Well, that sounds like fun. Maybe I’ll have to get involved.

Steph: Yeah. I’ll tell you how.

Discussion

This is a really cool music festival because it’s local. Portlanders get to show off their talents and volunteer their time to promote music.
Last year was a great success. The festival drew people throughout the day and evening.
The CD is great too because you get to see some of Portland’s lesser-known bands with it’s more well-known bands like The Shins and The Decemberists.
Plan your trip in August! It’ll be a blast!
