Nicole Kidman zips around New York on her Vespa, dodging hitmen from a troubled African state and playing a game of cat and mouse with a federal agent played by Sean Penn. It’s an entertaining flick.

John:  Have you seen the move The Interpreter?

Taylor:  No, I haven’t yet. I’ve, you know, heard it’s about an assassination plot and the United Nations. Why don’t you let me know a little bit more about it?

John:  Yeah, it’s actually pretty good. It just came out on DVD.

Taylor:  I saw that.

John:  It’s got Nicole Kidman in it, and Sean Penn, who I think is a pretty tough guy. I like him. But, yeah, it’s…I had no idea it’s all about the U.N. and, ah, a country in Africa is kind of having to deal with a ruthless leader and the world trying to figure out how they’re going to handle him. And it involves an assassination plot, um, and basically she overhears, Nicole Kidman overhears some conversation and then that sparks, um, a bunch of investigation into it.

Taylor:  Mm hmm. Doesn’t it get revealed at some point that she has some dark past and some involvement, possibly, in this assassination attempt?

John:  Yeah, that becomes part of the plot twist. So you don’t know until the end if she’s involved with it somehow.

Taylor:  Oh, that sounds fascinating.

John:  But Sean Penn does a really good job and it has a really nice international flavor to it. So I’d recommend it, for sure.

Taylor:  Excellent. I’ll check it out.

John:  ‘kay.

In this movie, Nicole Kidman’s character speaks many languages. She’s fluent in Ku, a fictional language that mixes Swahili and Shona, Thai and English. How cool is that?!
