40 Year Old Virgin is a crude comedy. It’s funny in a cheap way, with lots of silly humor and dirty jokes.

Dave

John

Dave: I just saw, last week, that movie 40 Year Old Virgin.

John: Oh yeah, what’s the name of the star in that?

Dave: I don’t know.

John: He used to be on The Daily Show.

Dave: Yeah! He looks a lot like Luke Wilson

John: Yeah, and he was just, he’s on that other show The Office.

Dave: Oh, is he?

John: The American version of The Office, he’s the star.

Dave: Okay. I haven’t seen The Office.

John: Well, anyway, was it a good movie?

Dave: It was really good. Especially in the environment I saw it at. I saw it at one of those theater pubs.

John: Oh yeah, The Mission up here.

Dave: Yeah, The Mission, where they serve food and beer and you can watch a movie. Um, and the movie is about this guy, he’s a 40 year old virgin, and, um, he’s just really clumsy with women. So, some guys at the office find out that he’s a virgin and they, kind of, take him out on the prowl for women.

John: So, there’s some peer pressure there to find a girlfriend?

Dave: A lot of peer pressure.

John: And, is he abstaining from women? I mean, does he not want to have a girlfriend, or he just can’t get one?

Dave: Yeah. Well, at this point, he’s 40 years old and he had tried to get girlfriends and it had always gone so badly for him that he just gave up. So, he’s got these buddies who are real womanizers and they keep hooking him up with girls, but it just doesn’t, it just doesn’t pan out.

John: So, does he, does he become a little bit more successful with ladies, or?

Dave: Well, in the end he kind of resolves the conflict and he’s content being a virgin and he finds a girl who’s happy with him and they live happily ever after.

John: So, it’s a happy ending.

Dave: Of course.

John: That’s good. Your type of movie, huh?

Dave: I love them.

The average age in America for females to lose their virginity is 17; for males it’s 18, though people seem to be having sex and younger and younger ages. Some people decide to abstain from sex until they are married. Others become very religious and decide to stop having sex until they are married. These people are called “born again virgins.”
