Migs: Dude, you were on fire last night.
John: Yeah, I was kind of money. It makes up for all those airballs I had last week.
Migs: Nothing could make up for all those airballs.
John: Yeah, whatever, dude. So what was your story? You couldn’t hit anything.
Migs: Yeah, I don’t know what was wrong with me. I threw up a ton of bricks.
John: It’s allright, man. Keep working at it. It’ll all come back.
Migs: So, you wanna play again tonight?
John: I don’t know. Tonight’s Tuesday? Isn’t Tuesday night the night when all those scrubs come down and play?
Migs: Oh, you mean like that guy who always wears those uh, green shorts?
John: Yeah, that guy, and the dude that wears the striped socks and the sports goggles. I hate playing with them.
Migs: Those guys are horrible.
John: I know. But, I don’t know, I had a milkshake for lunch today, so maybe I need to burn off some calories. Maybe we should play.
Migs: Yeah, you do need to lose some weight.
John: Yeah, whatever, fat boy.

Migs and I like to play basketball as much as we can. But even if we’re playing regularly, we still have nights when it feels like we can’t make a shot. We try to see the humor in it and tease each other a little. Then we hope that we play better next time. This is a good example of a conversation between two close friends. You should never call someone you don’t know very well a “fat boy.” It would really offend them. But male friends say things like this to each other all the time. They understand it’s only a joke and doesn’t mean much. Until next time,—John
