Portland is famous for being environmentally friendly. We are one of few U.S. cities to have light-rail and we strongly promote alternative methods of transportation.
Bicycles are one method of transportation Portland encourages. One of the events we have is called the Bridge Pedal. Nedra and Tanis tried it out last week and had a great time. Listen in on their conversation about it.

Nedra:  It was really fun on Sunday getting our bikes out so early, huh?

Tanis:  Gosh, I loved it. I don’t know the last time I’ve been up that early on a Sunday morning and it was so fun!

Nedra:  Yeah. There was like, I heard there was twenty thousand people there.

Tanis:  I can’t believe it. I, you know, it was amazing seeing all of those bikes just crowding up all the streets and in the morning you know when my boyfriend and I were riding our bikes down to the start of the race, uh, I just, it was amazing how many bikes were on the road, you know, there were no cars out there just bikes. It was great!

Nedra:  Yeah. I couldn’t believe how many bridges they blocked off for us, you know? Like the main ones for the highways and the freeways and then that, the big one where it has all the flags and you can see for miles and miles.

Tanis:  I loved that. It blew my mind being at the top of that, uh, bridge and just seeing the view and the city from an angle that you only see from the car for a split second, you know, and I just loved it. I thought it was fantastic.

Nedra:  Yeah, being on a bike’s a whole different experience than riding around (in a car).

Tanis:  You definitely feel more connected to the city.

Discussion

What do you think? Does the bike tour of Portland sound like fun? It does to me. There are 10 bridges on the Willamette River in Portland and the tour covered 8 of them. I bet it was beautiful. Hopefully you can come to Portland soon to see it yourself!
Are you ready for the quiz? Let’s go!
