He is perfectly dressed in a tuxedo and uses the finest gadgets to sneak in where he doesn’t belong in order to save the world, all while seducing the most beautiful women imaginable and drinking martinis. On the list of coolest people in history, James Bond has got to be near the top.

But that’s the thing, Bond isn’t one man. He’s six men. That is, there have been six men who have played Bond in different movies starting with Sean Connery in 1962 and going all the way up to the present day with Daniel Craig. Listen to Jason and Mason talk about which Bond they like best.

Jason: Pierce Brosnan is actually my favorite James Bond...

Mason: Really.

Jason: ...and I think that’s just because he was James Bond when I was a teenager and I think that’s probably when you love James Bond the most, is when you’re a teenage boy.

Mason: Yeah totally. My favorite is Roger Moore because he’s the first James Bond I ever saw on TV, even before the Pierce Brosnan movies came out. But…you know Pierce Brosnan and Roger Moore both have kind of similar paths that they got to James Bond.

Jason: Really?

Mason: They both did spy-esque characters on TV shows before they were given the role, so it’s like they were grooming themselves.

Jason: Oh.

Mason: But it’s interesting, man, most people I talk to are just like Sean Connery or nothing.

Jason: Oh really? I mean, Sean Connery definitely has the best voice of all the James Bonds.

Mason: I don’t know, he’s never…

Jason: When you’re looking at it across the decades, how do the James Bond ladies vary?

Mason: Oh, man, James Bond ladies is just, like, sign of the times. Whatever was the most sex icon, fashionable, it’s like…just look at the James Bond movie from that year.

Jason: Oh really?

Mason: Don’t you think?

Jason: Maybe. Sometimes they’re totally…I feel like the women are often totally unrealistic. They wear, like, these plastic-y, yellow skirts or it’s some African woman trained in 18 kinds of karate and she wears, like 18-inch shoes and does jump kicks in them and stuff.

Mason: Yeah. You know it’s definitely kind of blown a bit out of proportion, but if, say, plastic jungle boots was kind of a style, then James Bond kind of takes it to this cartoonish level.

Jason: Awesome.

Discussion

Let’s think about this…who would like Bond the best…Grandmothers? No. Too many gunshots. Middle-aged men? No. Bond reminds them how boring their lives are. Teenage boys? Yes, obviously.

So it makes sense that Jason’s favorite Bond is Pierce Brosnan, who starred in the movies that came out while Jason was a teenager. Mason’s favorite Bond is Roger Moore because he was the Bond Mason saw first when the old movies were shown on TV.

Jason asks Mason what he thinks of the women in Bond movies. They can be a little overdone, but Mason likes them because the exaggerate what was trendy at the time.

The last James Bond, with Daniel Craig, is the best, for me, because he is more macho man and not somekind loverboy, who take down every woman he saw. There is a lot of good action, sometimes a little fantastic, but great to watch.
