The album is dead. That’s what Black Eyed Peas front man will.i.am seems to think, anyway. That’s because so many people download songs one at a time from places like iTunes. It’s not as common anymore to buy a complete album. So will.i.am has said that the Black Eyed Peas’ latest release, The E.N.D., is not an album in the traditional sense. Instead, it’s an on-going project that will be changed and added to over time.
Dale has been a fan of the Black Eyed Peas since they first started out. Find out what he thinks about their new album (or non-album).

Marni: So have you checked out the new Black Eyed Peas album?
Dale: Absolutely. I’m a huge fan of the Black Eyed Peas.
Marni: Really?
Dale: Yeah, I love them. I actually knew them at the beginning. When they first actually started they were an underground group.
Marni: Prior to Fergie.
Dale: Prior to Fergie. The one main group member is actually Filipino.
Marni: Now, is that Will.i.am?
Dale: No, it’s actually Apl.de.ap. He actually recognized Filipinos in a majority of their songs in the beginning, early stuff. And then I started following them when they went into the Top 40. Been a fan pretty much of their sound…Their sound is extremely original and I really love the funk. They have a lot of energy in their music.
Marni: That’s interesting. I knew Fergie had done a solo career and I thought maybe they were done, and now look, they’re right back out with a new album.
Dale: Everybody’s been doing that, just like the New Kids on the Block are coming back with a reunion tour.
Mari: Well, it’s interesting, we’ll have to see what happens.
Dale: They always do that. They do something, but they always go back to the original.

Discussion
Dale used to live in the Philippines and his family is Filipino. Apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas is also Filipino. According to Dale, the Black Eyed Peas were very popular in the Philippines before they became popular in the rest of the world. Dale has been a fan of the band for a long time.
Marni is a little surprised that the Black Eyed Peas released another album. She thought that the band had split up because Fergie now has a solo career. But Dale isn’t surprised. He thinks that bands always come back together for one more album, even after one member of the band goes solo.
Would you rather have a solo career or be in a band? Do you prefer bands from your own country, or do you like to listen to bands from other countries as well?
