Relationships are about timing. There’s an appropriate time for every step, and if you move too fast or too slow, it won’t work out. Marni and Dale were off to a good start. After a little bit of confusion, Marni realized for sure that Dale liked her. It was coy, it was fun.

Things got a little weird when Dale started talking about Christmas cards in the middle of summer, but, you know, maybe he was just daydreaming. See what you think of Dale’s latest fantasy. To Marni, it sounds like a nightmare.

Dale

Marni:  So how are you doing now that Ella…I mean, she was your partner. She left the force? Is that…Are you OK?

Dale:  I’m actually OK with it.

Marni:  Yeah?

Dale:  I’m actually OK with it. I started thinking about my life at the same time, you know. Being a detective is very, you know…It’s unsafe and I’m really kind of considering a desk job that’s pretty much a nine to five. And then thinking about the future for us and making sure that I’m at least at home and being safe for the kids – you know, the little boy that we’re gonna have, the little girl that we’re gonna have. I think that’d be perfect.

Marni:  But uh…

Dale:  Don’t you agree?

Marni:  OK. Dale. You’ve got to stop. What children? What are you talking about?

Dale:  The two kids that we’re gonna have. Possibly a third one just by accident. You never know.

Marni:  OK.

Dale:  Never know.

Marni:  I need you to stop with the kid talk. Stop with the this and the that, and the Christmas pictures, and it’s all…Dale, I really like you, but I feel like…I feel like we should just be friends.

Dale:  Friends?

Marni:  Yeah.

Dale:  You know what? I think that’s an excellent idea. I don’t know why I didn’t think about that before.

Marni:  You do?

Dale:  Yeah! Why don’t we just stay friends? Perfect! That makes it a lot easier for me. I thought I was getting stressed out. Yes! Sweet! Friends it is for good. ‘Cause you know why? You know, everything that I was saying was just basically talk anyway. So…It was just talk.

Marni:  Just talk?

Dale:  Just talk.
