Generally, there are two types of people: those that see magic in a snow day and those that see a set of obstacles to their daily routine.

For some, snow days mean a beautiful, white landscape and an unexpected chance to sit indoors sipping hot chocolate instead of going to work or school. To them, snow days are magic. For others, snow days are a hassle. They mean being stuck inside, dealing with dangerous road conditions, and having wet, cold feet that test a person’s patience. Listen to Dale and Beren talk about their reactions to snow days.

Dale:  OK, I have to ask, I have to ask. When it was snowing and you had a snow day from school, how did you feel?

Beren:  You know, I never really got a snow day until I moved here and last year when it snowed were the first snow days I ever experienced.

Dale:  Snow weeks. Did you get any cabin fever?

Beren:  I totally got cabin fever. You had to figure out different indoor activities to pass the time. Lots of board games, lots of television, lots of movies.

Dale:  Yeah. I just personally, I didn’t like the TV ‘cause they always talked about the weather, so it kind of made me go a little stir crazy trying to find other things to do. I mean, I don’t know, when weather like that happens and it shuts down the city, does it affect a whole lot of people a lot of the times?

Beren:  I think it does here for some reason, which is strange because I’ve lived other places where it snows all the time and, you know, they’re prepared for it. I think that’s what it is. They have the snow plows. But it seems like especially the last couple winters here the whole city’s been shut down. People freak out, like, “Do not go outside! You’ll die!!”

Where Beren lives, it doesn’t snow very often. But when it does, the city shuts down because nobody is prepared for the snow. Beren is amazed by people’s different reactions to snow days depending on where they live. Some places are so used to snow that it isn’t a big deal at all.

Both Dale and Beren go a little stir crazy when they have to stay home because of the snow. They get bored and have trouble coming up with fun things to do inside. It’s surprising to them how much people freak out when it snows.

Are there ever snow days where you live? How do people react when it snows in your city or town?

There is no much snow in our city, we like snow that freak out to enjoy the beautiful scene that all of trees and houses were coverd by snow.Childs like to play snow ball, heap snow man freely. And we also have a proverb:Good snow means a good year!(瑞雪兆丰年). But in 2008, we suffered a terrible snow calamity that all traffic and business were influended, and many people didn’t return their hometown for Spring festival.

We have snow at the north of country, but in the short time in winter. It is so beautiful. I haven't seen it here, but I had a chance to see snow at Korea, and I held it in my hand, and play football in snow, very fantastic.

But if there are lot of snow (or even snowstorm), it will be difficult for living and dangerous for traffic.
