You don’t always know how well you’ll get along with someone the first time you meet him. When actress Emily Blunt first met Rupert Friend, her co-star in the new movie The Young Victoria, she didn’t think he was very polite. They were introduced to each other at a big party, and Rupert only said a quick hello to Emily before leaving. But later, Rupert explained that he gets nervous in large crowds, which is why he acted so strange. After that, he and Emily got along like a house on fire.

But wait. Is that good? Isn’t it usually a bad thing when someone’s house catches on fire? Well…yes. But if you think about it, fires do have some positive qualities. They burn quickly, energetically, and strongly. So if you have a friendship that is like a house on fire, it is powerful and full of life.

It’s good when co-stars get along like a house on fire, since they have to spend so much time together while filming. Plus, good off-screen chemistry usually makes for a more dynamic movie. In The Young Victoria, Emily and Rupert play Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of England. Victoria met Albert when she was only seventeen, and from the beginning, the pair got along like a house on fire themselves. They married four years later and went on to have nine children. Victoria was so upset when Albert died in 1860 that she wore black for the rest of her life and hardly ever went out in public.

Who do you get along like a house on fire with? Why do you get along so well with them?
